INDD active frame moves behind other open windows when you move the main palette frame

The same problem that began to occur with Illustrator and Photoshop several years back is now occuring in InDesign (main palette window moves behind other active windows when you attempt to move the window).  Not interested in work arounds and desktop viewing segmentations etc.  I want to work the old standard way. Adobe and Apple please resolve this issue!!!

Hello @arnold_9836,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please share more details, such as the version of the OS/InDesign installed, as well as a brief screen recording of your workflow, so we can better assist you? Also, try running InDesign after rebooting your computer in Safe Mode (macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Anubhav

I restarted in Safe Mod
>OS 14. 5
>Macbook 2018
>See attached thumbnail of system
>All current 2026 Adobe programs
>Mirror displaying onto Samsung monitor

1. I opened Adobe INDD, AI, PSD, Chrome browser, Outlook

When I opened just INDD, Chrome, Outlook—INDD always was active on top of everything. When I moved the frame it always remained on top where it should normally be.

2. The minute I opened up AI and PSD is when problems started. 80% of movements to the INDD frame window caused it to go behind PSD. The same is true of AI—80% of time went behind PSD. However PSD always stays on top when I click on it and move the window in my screen. It is not consistent. Sometimes when i double click on the program it stays on top for longer period of time, but only slight.

3. The same exact thing is happening to my IMAC 27 that is from 2021. All current 2026 Adobe programs with OS 14.6

It's hard to get an idea of what you're stating just from the description. Anubhav had asked for a screen recording. These often help explain the problem best. Are you able to do that using Quicktime?

My explanation provided does not require a video where I again have to waste more time. You guys in Adobe need to fix this problem or resolve it with Apple. Hundreds of people complaining for years and its getting worse and there is no action.

Hello @arnold_9836,

I appreciate your thorough follow-up, and I apologize for any frustration this may have caused. I have tested this issue on my end with InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop running simultaneously, but I was unable to replicate the problem of the document window being obscured by other applications. Since you are using macOS Sonoma, could you please try updating your OS to at least Sequoia and let me know if the problem persists? Additionally, please ensure that there are no desktop management or third-party window-handling utilities operating in the background, as these can disrupt app focus and window arrangement.

Once you have tested this, please provide an update, so I can continue to investigate the matter.

Abhishek

I upgraded my MAC 15" Powerbook to OS 15.72 which is the upper limit to this MAC laptop. I thought maybe this would help—it didnt help!

It is still doing the screwball Adobe windows going behind other active windows when I move them. This is absurd. When I just turn on INDD and no other Abode products, it works normally--the minute i have multiple Adobe programs running the active Adobe window moves behind other active programs (Outlook, Chrome). INDD for the most part stays on top but is not consistent. I have a colleague who has a brand new Powerbook and this does not happen to him at all—he uses the standard single Mission Control desktop space as I am with all current Adobe programs.

I am also reviewing my OS settings to Stage Manager to see if this affects anything

I am going to try to make a quicktime movie to show.

Part II
Further playing around with OS operational docking switches, Stage Manager, Desktop Displays does nothing to alleviate the issue.  I explored general preference settings on INDD, AI and PSD and nothing seemed amiss and nothing helped.

However I did one switch on one item that looks promising. I did the same operation on all three open platforms:
> turning off all pop-outs menus on INDD, AI and PSD

When I did this, the problem went away!  I tried reopening the pop-out windows and the problem still has not come back.

Is it possible there is some kind of coding problem for the pop-out menus with one or more of the Adobe programs that potentially effects the entire suites normal operation?

See enclosed

Maybe this is getting somewhere. Happy weekend.
