INDD Opening In Illustrator

Every time I save an InDesign file, and then reopen the file, it will open in Illustrator instead of Indesign. I can override with the "open with" function, but I am not sure why this keeps happening. I uninstalled and redownloaded both programs and have started new files from scratch but my INDD files keep opening in Illustrator by default. Not sure if anyone else has ran into this problem or if its a super easy fix I am missing.

It sounds as if your default file associations are messed up. You don't say what OS, platform and version you're using, but under Windows it's a matter of opening Default Applications and making sure (at least) INDD, INDB and IDML files are associated with InDesign.

Changing the defaults worked! Thanks for the help,

Glad it worked. For some reason, Adobe installs and updates occasionally mess up these file associations and cause just the problems you saw. It can be tedious to go down the list and make sure every obscure file type is correctly associated.
