OK, yes, I'm using Catalina 10.15.1 on a Mac pro 5,1 Tower via DosDude's Catalina Patcher, but ID 15.0 is slower than 14.x on the same configuration. It just seems that Adobe hasn't factored in 4K monitors yet. Even at native resolution—which I switched to recently from 3200 x 1800 because a few other apps like iTunes had issues with non-native resolutions—CC2020 is sluggish and jerky.
Selecting type, tracking, resizing windows. Slow slow slow slow.

Hi Jeff. I've just discovered that if you change the colour PREFS from LG UltraFine to Apple RGB in the display settings, all works brilliant. Was pulling what little hair I had until I just worked it out. Seems Adobe has bypassed the code to LG UltraFine Display for MAC OS Catalina. Pass this on please.

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with InDesign. Would you mind trying the steps below and share your observation:
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and InDesign will recreate new folders with default settings.

That worked wonders for type selection and general creation and editing of documents. Thanks for this. It doesn't help at all with grabberhand maneuvering of pages, which remains very jerky and laggy. Will do this with Illustrator which also suffers, but Photoshop 2020 is a speed demon in every way.
PS: Appreciate the title rewrite.

This approach also worked for illustrator, but grabber hand is also laggy and jerky even in outline mode.

My guess is that the grabber hand (with Spacebar) will have to be fixed, as it's generally a mess. I get resizing at times, a large red keylined rectangle at times, and no grabber hand at all other times.

I made this 30 second video to show the difference between InDesign 2020 and Affinity Publisher on a 4K monitor. The "edit" is simply hitting Command + Tab (app switching). System specs are noted at the link:

Does not help at all! Tried safe boot and deleting all caches... still super laggy and very slow here with Catalina 10.15.1 and Mac Pro (Late 2013). Maybe InDesign can not handle my dual AMD FirePro D500 correctly?

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with Illustrator. If you have already tried above-mentioned steps, you can also try the step below:
Log in to the root account (https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204012). Check how the application works there. If it works fine there, then it could be related to permission errors. Follow these steps to repair permission errors: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/kb/preferences-folder-read-only-error.html
If this doesn't help either, then we need to troubleshoot this on a live session. Please head here (https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html) and select the chat button in the lower-right corner of the page. We can help faster that way.

Same. Mac Pro 6.1 12C / 64 GB RAM / 2x GPU and after conecting LG 4K monitor performance is horrible low. Both Indesign and Illustrator seems be out of use with 4K display.

What's strange my office iMac 2015 with 16 GB RAM and only AMD Radeon R9 M290 2 GB with same version Adobe CC and Majove works perfect. So really strange both computers have same versions of softweare and difrent performance. Why?

Same here. Mac Pro late 2013 on 4k is slow, iMac 2015 5k works well

Try to decrease ID window on Mac Pro. When I'm decreasing window to really small size and starting work on it it's work normally. As I think It is 4K retina displa feauter that render images of ID, AI. Our Imacs resolution works diferntlly than additonall Displays connected to Mac Pro.

Whoa! That definitely sped ID up. I switched from having ID take up the entire screen (4K; 32") to a smaller window about 80% the size and it felt much faster, though still not slick. Microsoft office can go full screen no problem. Adobe apps notsomuch. Go figure.

It's not just InDesign...it's Lightroom and Illustrator as well. Photoshop seems to work all right.
Adobe is completely in denial over this. I've contacted them multiple times, and all they can do is give me suggestions for "improving performance". They just can't seem to grasp the notion that their code is bad. I suspect it has something to do with new security stuff in Catalina or they broke GPU usage, but I'm not a programmer.
What I can tell you is that my 2013 MacPro with 32 gigs of RAM is now useless for InDesign and Lightroom, my two most important apps. Downgrading to High Sierra is a pain, but it's what I'm going to have to do. The reason I upgraded was to use SideCar with my iPad, but I guess I'll have to wait until Adobe admits the problem and fixes it.
What I can't understand is that this problem is EASILY replicated....although that's really wrong word. You don't need to replicate anything. All you need to do is install InDesign, Lightroom or Illustrator on a Mac running Catalina and you'll see it. It's not some weird set of cirumstances. As an IT Specialist at a research university, I have tried this on multiple computers, clean installations, etc. I have had absolutely no success.
Fix your code, Adobe. You have a monopoly right now, but if this is the way of the future, it won't be for long.

I have the same performance problem running Mojave on a late 2012 iMac. 3.4 GHz i7 with 32Gb of ram. My previous version of InDesign ran just fine but this new 2020 version really lags with every move. I too have tried all the suggested performance improvers without any noticable difference. I recently tried out the newly released Affinity Publisher from Serif which runs without these issues so surely Adobe can sort this out.

Same thing happened with the 2019 release until one day it quietly just updated and was fixed. No announcement or acknowlegement. You think the known issues last year would translate.
Adobe tell us to uninstall, install, cleaner tool, preferences, cache naming..... and none of these work. Wasting time (days of it).
The only way I fixed it last year was to go back to the year before apps. It wasn't happening then and I could go back to working at pace and no more hijacking the entire computer, even the internet browsers. I'm doing the same this year until they fix this code issue. Clearly that's what it is - a code issue that needs prioritising with @Adobe
It would be awesome if another solution was available. Canva is tempting even compared to this, despite it being a low end solution. At least it is consistent.
Please @Adobe sort out your code. I confer completely with @wea100

I totally think @wea100 nailed this response. The same issue happened with the 2019 version and quietly got fixed despite Adobe's denial this problem existed, but months later after release. Now 2020 is released and the same bug still there. No acknowlegement of the problem here either and they keep giving us silly 'fixes' that just waste time. This is clearly a code problem. If there was an alternative I'd be out like a flash. Terrible service. It is tempting to even start using crappy Canva.com over this. My entire computer is hijacked. I estimated the cost to my business for the fact that I'm losing 15 minutes every hour for this slow problem already $12,000 to my business this year. If it goes on much longer I really need an alternative. Imagine a big studio's impact. Not cool Adobe. Get the code sorted.

Hi Nicolas,
Sorry to hear about the trouble. Could you please confirm if InDesign lags every time you click on a text frame? I would request if you can confirm if this is happening on a specific file or multiple files?

Hello, yes every time i click on a text frame i loose control and it is the same with text tool and arrow. The global frame of the application lagging too and it's very difficult to zoom or move on pages.
I'm limited on methods because i work on pharma lab and my pc is adminsitrated by the IT. They don't know so much about 2d/3d graphics apps on PC or MAC, but i can dowload the 2019 indesign CC version and there is no probleme with it so i can work now.
Best regards, Nicolas.

I'm having the same problem today on my new Macbook Pro 2019.
On Catalina, ID 2020 v15.0.1 is too slow when I'm trying to copy large raster images and paste them onto another layer.
I unstalled ID 2020 and reinstalled ID 2019 v14.0.3 and the lagging is gone.
All this after I had came upon a bug in ID 2020 today: If you apply automatic text box resizing in a file, then undo (CMD+Z) forces all changes to revert back to the last time you either saved or opened the file.
IMHO, ID 2020 is not ready for prime time.
