Hi there,
Just have got InDesign updated and one thing is super inconvenient... When you hit Ctrl+E it used to use the last [pdf] export profile that had been used, but now it's always 'Adobe (Interactive) PDF' always. Might sound like a minor issue, but when you have to go through lots of pages one by one it just a massive waste of time going each time through File-Adobe PDF Presets-Needed One (using mouse).
Can't see where it can be backed? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Henry
p.s. Thought it could be resolved through Keyboard shortcut, but apparently you can't make it for a specific preset, and Ctrl+E [as mentioned] is not "sticky" anymore

Apparently just a glitchy update it was. Will never ever again upgrade to a version straight away. And it's not just the export issue, but overall. And no option to go back to previous stable version

What's changed is a new default for InDesign CC 2019 (14.0) is to remember the way the document was saved last time. That was the main change made. So if you have some files you're saving as EPUB (Reflowable) and some PDF (Print) and some PDF (Interactive), it by default saves it the same way as it different first time.
But for a new document, it's not clear where that information is stored. I opened CC 2019 and created two new documents. Cmd-E defaulted to export to Flle > Export > PDF (Print) not interactive.
I reset InDesign preferences and tested again. It also exported as PDF (Print).

With some things, you can set them when no documents are open, but there is no way to set a particular PDF export. We should ask that to be added as a preference. If it's important to you, you should post that request on InDesign User Voice here:

Thank's for the link. I thought THIS is the place, but my message was that it's not fine charge people decent moneys, release unstable or untested properly versions. As mentioned it's not the only issue, it freezes, can just not respond when you switch to text boxes and stuff like that (the computer is not dated and highly productive). Haven't noticed anything with Ps, Ai and others so far, but Indesign update is a fiasco.

Further testing:
The default for a new document appears to me to be whatever the export mode of the last exported document which was saved.
Because the document was saved, it can be stored with that file. It also appears to set the default for the next new document.
So if you want to reset the default, if it's not when you want, export it the way you want, and make sure to save the document. That resets the default. Try this out.

Tried and no, saving or not saving, always interactive

The worst thing that just switching from Interactive in export window is not an option for me as I usually need specific printers set PDF profile.

Have you tried restoring InDesign preferences? Here's how:

Doesn't work that combination for me. Apparently that article is outdated for the current version. As was published 17 Mar 2017

The article gives two methods: The keyboard method requires you hold the keys very fast on a fast computer.
Try the other method: removing or renaming the two files in the paths provided

As mentioned the computer is fast, besides, all other keyboard shortcuts work perfectly, so I don't think the speed is the issue
Haven't posted straight away to test it properly... So, after deleted/renamed the files manually, it helped, but... just for about 5 exports (or aprox 1 hour time) and then got back to 'always Interactive' again. Not a solution, considering during production time, I won't be able to do it often, as there is downside of restoring all other defaults, panels and stuff tailored to save time as well

Tried saving the document and no change at all, still always Interactive PDF. In previous versions the function was sticky, now it's just ridiculous time wasted on going through menu every time. No matter what the idea was behind, but it's a massive setback. Even if it works after saving, it's not okay to save or resave or reopen just for that.

Well, Adobe should fix this problem. For me, export is defaulted to HTML every time, even though I export as PDF most of the time. I recall that I exported to HTML the very first time I used Indesign CC 2019, and its permanently stuck there.
This situation appears to be where a firm goes "backward" and removes helpful utilities so as to keep the program "balanced" every upgrade: Its as though we cannot have too many good things, otherwise what is there to upgrade and fix in the future? Quark was notorious for that. I always considered Quark 3 the very best version in terms of friendly use. After that, the product made its slow decline even as functions were added and expanded.
Anyway, if Adobe wishes to avoid this path, it would be nice if ALL panels had a set defaults option. I seriously need that for HTML, for example. I'm tired of clicking the same presets over and over and over. Why can't we set defaults and just export to HTML or PDF once?
Oh well. Perhaps in 2020.

I think there is something screwy in your install. My version defaults to the last exported format. I had other issues with this release, so I ended up doing a clean install and not importing any of my previous settings. You might try that route.

Just have updated it and the issue is still here
Yep, will try to uninstall and install from the start today then. Will see if it helps

Nah, unfortunately... Even after fresh start with preferences deleted same 'Interactive pdf' every time

Hi Henry,
rather strange. I cannot see this behavior with my German InDesign CC 2019 on Wndows 10.
Let's recap:
1. Trashing preferences did not help.
2. Trashing caches did not help.
At least not for long.
Will restarting InDesign help?
Hm. You could also uninstall InDesign, trash again preferences and caches.
And then I would recommend the following:
Before installing InDesign CC 2019 again, backup and finally trash all preferences and all caches of all your installed InDesign versions. After installing CC 2019 put all preferences and caches for all the previous versions back in place.
Important: Install InDesign CC 2019 without migrating settings from previous versions.
And of course uncheck the option to remove previous versions:

Uwe

Thanks Uwe,
Tried it again. Uninstalled without preserving Preferences. Moreover, deleted physically Defaults files and folders of previous versions. Installed it from a start and yet again no matter what was my previous Export preset, it keeps Interactive pdf as a default choice when I hit Export (Ctrl+E)
You can't even imagine how much time has been killed playing with this issue already
Cheers,
Henry

Unfortunately, still the same. Like with the previous update no fix for export issue.
I hate myself for installing this Indesign 14.0 straight away
Will never ever again go for a new version this early. Glitchy as...

Hi Henry,
I'm out of suggestions for now.
What's your operating system?
Is a browser with 3rd-party plugins open when you see the issues?
( You see, that I'm totally guessing here… )

Uwe

Odd, intermittent issue. Just showed up again on the 14.02 update. I never use interactive PDF, so it should never store it in the memory of my system or any files. Just shows up at random when exporting files.

I was having the same issue and found the solution to this. You have to save your file in a different destination once as print or interactive whichever you want to work with then it will save it as default and you can continue the export in your previous destination
