InDesign 17.0.1 Missing Links

Community Beginner ,

Just started using 17.0.1 about 2 weeks ago after updating my macbook pro to Monterey. Now InDesign will not find linss or relink automatically. Clicking on "find missing or updated links" does nothing. All links show up with yellow error icon (missing or modified). If I click on a link in the links panel and relink, the older versions would also relink all modified or missing links in the links folder, but this no longer works.I can relink them manually, and that seems to work but it won't stick if I close the file and then reopen it later.  I tried unstalling and then reinstalling, getting rid of all preferences (at least I thought so) in the bargain. But nothing seems to work. Is this a big? I have not seen it reported anywhere. Thanks for any help or advice.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing the exact version of macOS? Also, do you see this behavior in a specific file or all? Are these linked files saved on a network location?

This information would help us assist you accordingly.

Regards,

Ashutosh

I'm using 12.0.1 OS. This happens will all InDesign files, no exception so far.The links are in packaged folders that I have downloaded to my computer, so they are not on a network. I did not see anything about this in Preferences, anything I could reset, etc. When the new CC updates aare opened, they ask for permission to access certain files, like Downloads, Desktop, etc. Perhaps that is set incorrectly? Thanks.

Ishould also point out that all the InDesign files have been properly packaged. It appears that INDD cannot find the links folder and relink images without help.

This is exact issue is also happening to me, except once I have manually relinked all links, and I close that document and reopen it, the links are all connected.

As well as the issues listed about I am also finding I am unable to double click on the yellow triangle (missing icon) to relink. I have to click the relink icon on the panel just under the list of links. This isn't a huge hassle but it is strange.

I am also unable to package once I have relinked all links manually. A error box comes up: "InDesign could not package the document 'document name'. Cannot copy necessary linked file(s)".

I am using:

MacOS Big Sur 11.5

Indesign 17.0.1

Behaviour: This is happening with all correctly packaged files that I download from colleagues

I would love some answers, as this is extremely time consuming. Thanks so much!!

Hi @Nellie923 & @Georgia5E89,

Sorry for the delayed response. I would request you to please share a video demonstrating the issue. I will forward it to the product team. Also, do you see a red question mark icon in the Links panel in front of the link, or is it always yellow with an exclamation symbol? If you see the red icons, it means that the version of the file on disk is more recent than the version in your document. For example, this icon appears if you import a Photoshop graphic into InDesign, and then you or someone else edits and saves the original graphic in Photoshop. A slightly different version of the Modified icon appears when a graphic is modified, and one or more instances are updated while others are not.

Also, do you see the "issues with links" dialog box when you open the file with (updated) modified links?

Also, do you see the "Information" dialog box saying "Searched this relink directory, and found and relinked x missing links" when you try to update 1 link from that Packaged or links folder manually?

If you don't see this dialog box, then you may go to InDesign Preferences and click on "Reset All Warning Dialogs."

If that doesn't help, then please try resetting the InDesign preferences (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html).
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

If that doesn't help either, then please try to uninstall the application using the CC Cleaner tool and restart the system (most important) reinstall from the Creative Cloud Desktop app. I hope it helps!

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini
