InDesign 19.3 doesn't memorizes moves anymore

Hi everyone,

Since updating InDesign to the latest version, I've noticed that a very important feature to me has stopped working.

Previously, when I randomly moved an object, I could easily check the exact vertical and horizontal distances (in cm, inches, pt, pixels etc) it has moved by going to Object > Transform > Move. The window would display the vertical and horizontal coordinates of the last movement. However, now these fields are blank and no longer show the information.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Thank you!

Hello @elmorosa,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of your experience. I understand how important it is for you to track the exact movements of objects within InDesign.

Could you please confirm if this issue persists with all objects, or if it's specific to certain types of objects or documents? Also, have you noticed any changes in other settings or behaviors since the update?

Also, please provide details about your operating system.

I recommend checking if resetting the preferences helps. You can reset preferences by holding down `Shift + Ctrl + Alt` (Windows) or `Shift + Command + Option + Control` (Mac) while launching InDesign. Article reference: Set preferences in Adobe InDesign

Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

Thank you,
Abhishek Rao

Hi, Abhishek Rao

I work in a Mac OS 14.4.1 Sonoma and my InDesign version is 19.3.

I've just reset my preferences, but with no success.

Thank you,

Elmo Rosa

You need to update Sonoma and InDesign.

HK @elmorosa:

We get an uptick in reports of erratic InDesign behavior after an update that is often due to corrupt preferences. @Abhishek Rao gave you one option: there are additional steps you can take if the first one doesn't take care of this for you. Just let us know and we can offer further suggestions.

It may als be worth noting that not only does InDesign has an update available as per @Robert at ID-Tasker, so does macOS Sonoma (14.6). However, if ths is a preferences issue, updating will likely not make a difference. You'll still need reset your preferences.

Hi everyone,

Just updated to InDesign 19.5, but the problem persists.

I have no intention to upgrade Mac OS operational system (in fact, I would like to downgrade it some versions, if I could).

Thank you very much!

Hi @elmorosa:

Can you share the exact steps you took to reset preferences? As previously stated, there are multiple way to approach this. https://www.rockymountaintraining.com/adobe-indesign-rebuilding-preferences-cache

Unless I misunderstand your actions, the Move dialog always shows zeros to me whether I randomly moved the object or not:

UNLESS I previously moved an object by entering values in the Move dialog, in which case the dialog will display the recent values. But I don't think that's what you meant by "randomly moved"?
