Hello,

Mac Book Pro, Apple M1, InDesign Version 19.5(latest), no further plugins installed

I try to set a .docx or .rtf Document by CMD + D. The window to choose the document opens. I can choose it and press open. Nothing happens, I don't get the small text symbol to place the text.

I've tried it with several documents, .rtf and .docx. I've tried it with »show import options« on and off. I've already restarted my MacBoox, cleared cache, reinstalled InDesign, searched the whole Internet for solutions, nothing works.

I hope you can help mee

I found the solution

The problem was the conversion. I converted the documents in a online cloud programm from .odt to .docx or .rtf. I've tried it with Libre Office to convert these and now it works fine. Thank you all

Hi @Paul25060844kudz,

Thank you for reaching out, and I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with the Place command. We’ve tried to reproduce the issue on our end, but it seems to be working fine.

I recommend resetting your InDesign preferences (hold down Shift + Option + Command + Control when launching) and testing again. Reference: Set preferences in Adobe InDesign

If the issue persists, try using a different file or format to see if that helps.

Let me know how it goes, and we’ll take it from there!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

Hello Abhishek,

thank you. I've already tried that by Prefernces -> General -> Reset preferences on quit. I already reinstalled InDesign completly and delted configurations. I also tried different formats like .rtf and docx, I need to work with these. I also tried several documents.

What page and layer are you on when you try to Place? Is the layer unlocked?
