InDesign 2019 and Ligatures not working

Hi all

I cannot get Ligatures to work in InDesign 2019. Tried:

— several different fonts,

— switching 'ligatures' on and off in Character menu,

— ensured tracking is set to 0

— restarting the app,

— restarting the Mac.

Any thoughts? Tearing my hair out!

Thanks!

Can you post a screenshot with text in a font that ought to have ligatures, and the Character Panel showing? Make sure it's with your text cursor in the text, so we can see what is applied at that point. (As a common error is to show this panel but with no text selection, and there is additional formatting to the actual text, which kind of defeats the purpose.)

Sure, here you go – font name blanked as it's client-confidential ;-)

and further to that – some ligs work, some don't:

Do you have tracking applied to the text? Positive tracking will turn them off.

Hi Steve – I do not.

I have also tried applying positive (and negative) tracking and removing to see if it shakes things up, but no change.

Try some troubleshooting basics:

Does this happen in only one file, or all files?

If only one file, I'd try saving the file as IDML and reopening it. There could the corruption:

Clean corrupt files by exporting to .IDML or .INX

If in more than one file, try restoring your InDesign preferences:

Set preferences in Adobe InDesign
