Good afternoon,
My InDesign program encountered an issue when trying to open a large file. This file has many links, so having it take a moment to open was no surprise (by moment, this is still only a matter of seconds). However, upon having the document open for a brief moment, the program crashed. This prompted an "unexpected crash report" and a prompt to reopen. I sent the report, and I authorized the reopening. The program crashed again. This happened repeatedly from here on every time I tried to launch the software, even after telling InDesign to discard the recovered information. Cancel and delay the recovery. Nothing worked. I shut down my machine. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled. It still asked for recovery information after opening the freshly installed version. I tried to close the file without saving if it had managed to open so that it would not need to store a recovery - that did not work.
This prompted me to check on my other software; Photoshop, after effects, premiere were all working okay. Illustrator began to exhibit the same behavior though. With illustrator, I did not try to open a file - having the menu open for a few moments would prompt the program to crash. I followed the same uninstall/reinstall procedure with Illustrator and that too seemed to be crashing repeatedly.
I tried to work off the old versions but some of my projects had already been created in the newer versions. This created some crossover issues so I needed to figure this out. I took a video screen capture of this happening with InDesign for documentation.
I am working off an iMac Pro 2017 with High Sierra 13.6. Not sure exactly what the issue would be.
The only thing that seemed to get InDesign 2019 to calm down was to redownload the older 13.1 version in conjunction. I did not work off this program, I still worked off version 14 (InDesign 2019) but the crashing stopped. After an hour scouring online for a solution, numerous uninstalls/reinstalls, restarts, etc. this was the only thing that worked. I have since uninstalled the 2018 version and have been working on the most current without issue (fingers crossed). This solution worked for Illustrator as well (again, fingers crossed).
Is this just a compatibility issue? Will InDesign get stuck trying to recover a file, causing it to crash like this? And if so, and it seems to be stuck in this cycle, how can I remedy this?
Thanks a bunch in advance.
-Eric

Good morning Sanyam,
Thank you for such a rapid response. Was yesterday an isolated event?
So far this morning my programs are running normally.
