InDesign 2020 character encoding error

I use Illustrator to create vector images of text when the layout would be too complicated in InDesign and would not be read appropriately by a screen reader anyways, for example, when I need an image of a long division equation. I'll create the image of the equation in Illustrator, put it into InDesign, anchor it, and then give it a custom alt-text value using the Object Export menu. With the 2020 updates, it seems that Adobe Acrobat Accesibility Checker is trying to read these vectors of text as actual text and failing, giving me a character encoding error. Is there a way to help Acrobat just read these as images and alt-text? Thank you for your help!

Just in case anyone comes across this later, I've figured out the issue. Unbeknownst to me, the Illustrator assets I was using at the time I asked this question were made with a variable type font. When I went back into Illustrator and changed the font to a non-variable type font, the issue resolved. InDesign no longer read the links as a character encoding error.
