InDesign 2023 (18.5, 18.4 etc) keeps crashing when launching the second time after each new install

InDesign 2023 keeps crashing, whenever I start it the second time after a fresh install. I'm on macOS.
Currently I have to uninstall and reinstall InDesign whenever I want to use it (daily at the moment).
Also tried earlier 18.x version, but the problem persists.

Here are all methods I've tried already without success:

  • Delete all Adobefnt10.lst files (none were present)
  • Deactivate all fonts (as far as macOS allows deactivating fonts)
  • Run macOS in "Safe Boot" mode (InDesign doesn't star neither)
  • Remove plugins (none were installed)
  • Completely uninstall Indesign with preferences and reinstall (Indesign only starts the first time)
  • Manually remove settings in [username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/
  • Remove any data in [username]/Library/Cache/Adobe InDesign/

InDesign doesn't give any message why it crashes nor that it crashes.
I've also read the active thread about problems in InDesign 2022, but this is 2023 and only on second time launches.

Any more ideas?

All the other Adobe software runs fine.

Correct answer Bill Silbert

InDesign version 18.5 is known to have problems running on versions of Ventura earlier than 13.5.1. The current version of Ventura is 13.6. Updating to the latest Ventura has fixed the problem for many users (myself included).

thank you @leo.r and @Bill Silbert, your hints solved my issue!

After installing the macOS update to 13.6, InDesign 2023 now launches again, whenever I want to. 🙂

you don't mention your macOS version - so update to the latest macOS version, if needed.
