I have just updated to the 2023 InDesign, and now suddently my documents are read-only and I cannot save the file, but have to make a save as version and give the document a new name everytime I have to save my work.
Do you know why this is happening? And how to avoid this?
Hello @pifath67,
Thank you for your patience. I discussed this with the product team, and they have informed me that a bug has been logged for this issue. The team is currently investigating it, and I will keep you updated with any progress or if further information is needed.

Hello everyone,
Could you try the following steps and checking if it helps resolve the problem:
For Windows:
1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator
Search for "cmd" in the Start menu, right-click on "Command Prompt," and select "Run as administrator."
2. Type: the following command and hit Enter
regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign 2025\QuickLookPreview.dll"
3. You’ll see a message box from Windows indicating whether the operation was successful or not.
For macOS:
1. Open System Sett

Me too...I have the most recent version 19.2 and I am still experiencing the read only issue. It opens fine but as soon as I save once...it goes to read only....grrrrrrr.....

the only way that I have found to avoid it, is by not using the preview panel in your microsoft folders.

I met with Harshika the other day as well as one of the developers and I can assure everyone on this thread that they are working very hard to get this issue corrected - and I believe they're incredibly close to doing so.
This issue seems to be happening mainly with high-security computers and computers that use an array of networks/drives. In addition, they have to work with the IT department that controls these computers, which makes their job all the more difficult.
It's also worth mentioning that they met with me at 1:00 P.M. EDT, which I believe is close to midnight in their time zone. I have complete faith that they will fix this issue and they have shown the utmost dedication to finding a solution.
If you would like to help move things along, please private message Harshika with your contact information as she asked previously. Otherwise, please be patient, respectful and remember the golden rule.

It looks like you just recently created a community account, make sure you've completely set up and verified your account then try again. Otherwise, I'm not sure what's causing the issue.

My setup is complete so it appears to be an error...Harshika, please reach out if I can provide any testing or information, thanks.

Are you talking about the Windows Explorer? If so, I never have the Preview Pane active and still keep getting the Read Only issue with my InDesign files.

Hi there! I can confirm, still having the same issue as our IT department told me to try turning off preview pane months ago...
I can also tell that there's some new funny stuff happening reagarding ALL CC software not only InDesign, but it started there:
Randomly throughout the day I can't access CC Libraries as it tells me, it's getting blocked by the Firewall (see screenshot in german below)
I already contacted our IT Department and they can confirm that it's definitely not getting blocked by any firewall inside the company's network --> Adobe CC Problem.

I've been holding off on a follow-up to give some time after the 18.4 update to see if the problem was resolved or not. Well today I had my first InDesign file save as a Read Only file again. Doesn't do it for all files thankfully, but happens enough to be pretty annoying.

I have been waiting as well to comment after the update. While the problem is not happening near as much as it used to. It still does happen. I would say things are 80% better! However when it does happen, it is still very annoying. So maybe they are getting closer.
