InDesign 2025 Cursor Lagging on MacBook Air 15-inch M3 Chip

Hello all,

While working in InDesign, I've been experiencing lagging issues with my cursor. For example, when I'm working doing normal things in the platform (InDesign 2025), when I move my mouse (or my track pad) around, the program freezes for two seconds before I can do anything. This happens on a timed sequence. Like every 30 seconds it does this: I work and then it freezes to where I can't do anything until it unfreezes again.

SIGH* -_- I've had this issue for years with InDesign. I'm now finally deciding to post about it because my job is becoming more demanding and any second wasted on this freeze is causing delays in my timeline — I'm used to working super fast in the other platforms and they don't give me this same issue with freezing every 30 seconds.

Does this community even reach the Adobe systems manager? Anyone from IT who can provide a solution? Has anyone ever contacted them directly — if so, how? Thanks so much!

FYI* I'm on my company laptop. So alot of things that have to do with me updating systems I need an admin password so I won't be able to do too much if it requires me to do fancy things. I just wanted to hear from anyone who'se experienced this and has found a solution ... maybe? Although I AM able to reinstall the platfrom.

Hi @Lamusicienne

When you mention InDesign 2025, are you referring to the latest 20.1 version of InDesign? Does the issue remain if you disconnect from the Internet as well? Are the files you work on stored locally on the system's local drive, external drive, remote location, or cloud? Also, please confirm if you are using any desktop management application like Magnet, etc. Could you try booting in safe mode and see if the lagging goes. Reference: https://adobe.ly/3WAiomm

Let me know how it goes.

Hello Abhishek, here are some responses to those questions:

Are you referring to the latest 20.1 version of InDesign? NO. I just saw that there's a new version so I'm updating now.

Does the issue remain if you disconnect from the Internet as well? Are the files you work on stored locally on the system's local drive, external drive, remote location, or cloud? I have my file stored on the iCloud at first and then saved it to my desktop.

Also, please confirm if you are using any desktop management application like Magnet, etc. I am not using a desktop management system. Not sure how to determine if I am though.

What I did earlier today was go into my InDesign preferences > Interface and start to uncheck alot of the boxes that were checked. Then I restarted the program. With this, it seems to have stopped that lagging issue O(0_0)o !! I hope this stays like this. I don't want to jinx it, but for now, this seems to have solved it! I appreciate your thorough response!

Hello @Lamusicienne

Thanks for the update. I am glad that you were able to fix it by tweaking the Interface preferences. If you again face the issue, make sure to reach out. I will be present to assist.
