InDesign 2025 (v20.0) crashes upon 'redo'

Hey there ID nerds, I tried to search this online but couldn't find anything on the topic. After updating to the latest 2025 v20.0 version, InDesign crashes everytime I use redo!

The report specifies "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" exceptionCode="0xc0000005"

Deleting preferences, unisnstalling reinstalling, updating graphics drivers, windows update, nothing seemed to work. Eventually, I rolled back to v19.5 and that's working as flawlessly as before.

Thought I will post and leave this here so there is a record of this bug/issue somewhere on the planet.

Guys, thank you all for your time and replies. But I finally figured out the issue and successfully resolved it! #Eureka

It was the stupid Adobe Fonts!! I had hundreds of fonts that I used over the years via my account and once I deactivated them all, no more crashes! I don't know whether it was a specific set of fonts or there is some integration issue between Adobe Fonts & ME version of ID 2025, the language barriers and all, but deactivating Adobe Fonts seemed to fix the issue. Go figure 😄

@Kiran Qureshi

Too many fonts - especially when you've duplicates installed - can lead to unexpected crashes.

I'm not sure about duplicates tbh, was using these for years, never had any issues. Oh well! with each upgrade comes new issues I guess 🙃

Update:

Just updated on a completely different system... still running latest Win11 but a different GPU, CPU and such. Problem is still hapepning there... so it cannot be system-related, I don't know whether it's because I install the Arabic/Hebrew version but it's definitely an issue across multiple platforms.

that's a welcome detail.

and do you have the same problem with the English version?

you can change the language in Creative Cloud app > Preferences (although I'm not sure if this step is fully sufficient to switch to the English version).

It's not about the files, my friend. I create a brand new file, do a few steps, do Undo and then as soon as I click/press Redo the program crashes. It's happening even in InCopy so it's not specific to ID or ID files.

Happened to my other system as well. Then I installed it on a third system fram scratch (the system never had ID or CC installed before), same error.

I'm installing the ME version as I work with a lot of RTL languages. Did you try with English or ME?

Ah I tried the English version
I'll try the ME version tomorrow.

Undo/redo works in the English version.

Sorry, posted too soon... running on Windows 11 with Nvidia GeForce 2060 GPU, everything is most-up-to-date as of today.

Happening with InDesign and InCopy as well, there seems to a common engine/file that they share which is causing the issue...

first, try this general troubleshooting:

will it make a difference?
