For the last week or so I've been having major problems with all the Adobe Software, randomly it will completely freeze and stop my iMac in it's tracks and the only way to get out of it is to turn it off and on again. I've tried uninstalling all the software and deleting preferences but it keeps happening! Has anyone else had the same problem? Illustrator InDesign
[Following further investigation InDesign has been revealed as the culprit - Accordingly thread has been moved to InDesign Forum by Moderator]

Ok as a Moderator I will move this to the InDesign forum in case anyone else has any other ideas.
Given Monika's opinion as well - I will stick to my guns and suggest that the best fix will be to roll InDesign back to a previous more stable version.
I will update the move in the thread and location history so those involved can still find it.
Best,
EW

Same thing is happening to me and I also have an iMac but I have a higher processor and more memory.
iMac with Retina 4K, Processor is 3.3 GHz intel Core i7 with 16 GB of memory.
I'm working on 11 X 17 inch dimensions with a 300 DPI on RGB.
I have also started to see this black box which is an indicator for me that it is going to crash soon.
This has seriously delayed my work and makes me so frustrated because I know turning off my computer is bad for it. Sometimes I have Photoshop open but now I'm just working with Illustrator open.

Is there a reason why you are working at such a large scale for your artwork?
Additionally - if there is a particular reason - why can you not work at a lower ratio scale that can then be increased when it comes to final output?
The whole point of vectors and illustrator is to be able to scale things accurately.
I'm not trying to be annoying or rude when I say this but I'm surprised you have to work at such a high ratio dimension.
Best wishes,
EW

An Illustrator file doesn't have a resolution.
Perhaps you are referring to the raster effects resolution, which is irrelevant unless you actually apply raster effects (drop shadows ot the like)
Please tell us what exactly you do in that file and when exactly Illustrator crashes.
Please note: By posting your issue in this thread you make it close to impossible to solve the other person's issues, which is not nice.
So in case this happens ever again: Please create your own thread. Thank you.

I'll create my own thread thank you. In no ways was I trying to be rude, I just saw the OP had the same issue with Adobe crashing their computer so I thought it would be okay to include my problem. MY BAD.

Monika - What about artboard size in illustrator doesn't this have some affect on memory and cpu consumption etc??
I was under the impression that it did? Happy to be told I'm wrong.

No worries, I'll create my own thread. When I saw your post I assume it might be a bug in the program or something is happening with Adobe. But thank you btw

It might be a bug, corrupted preferences, issues with objects in your file, not enough RAM accessible, bad fonts, a bad volume, saving to networks, third party plugins ... so many issues. Issues for crashes are not the same for different people meeting randomly.
Following this up in the same thread over a few days and answering to two people parallel is a pain both for the asking as for the answering party.
