Can we do audiobooks using adobe InDesign?

You can add more if you like - but deleting - no, and why? It is fine. Others might have the same issue and find the thread.

My apologies I misunderstood the query.

You edit the InDesign file and publish online again and then select the option to update the online version.

It's in the help documentation

InDesign does not edit any other format but its own (*.indd files and a few support types). It cannot edit Publisher, Quark or PageMaker files, for example.

InDesign has no capability to create audiobooks. The Adobe Suite tool Audition is  good platform for sophisticated audio work.

InDesign is a very capable EPUB creator, though. Put simply, it's a matter of using clean, organized document formatting, and then exporting to EPUB using the correct settings. You can learn by just experimenting and following the various Adobe Help topics, or, if you're serious about doing a professional job, I've written a comprehensive book on the topic.

I would warn you against just searching the web for information on the topic, though. For every up-to-date, knowledgeable, useful tutorial, blog or how-to page you might find, there are vast numbers that are out-of-date, misleading or just plain lousy. It can be hard to tell them apart until you have experience (at which point you don't need them much any more!)

The book is in my signature line and available on Amazon. It does assume you're familiar with InDesign, HTML and CSS but has useful information for those coming up to speed on those.

The only recommended EPUB format, these days, is reflowable or "liquid" layout, which has no defined pages or page size. The reader presents each screen of information as a virtual page, resizing everything according to the screen size, the reader settings and the user preferences.

It is still possible to do Fixed-Layout or FXL EPUB, but it's not recommended except for a narrow range of "picture page" books like children's books, graphic novels, dense how-to guides that are mostly images, etc.

Audio books: no.

There is of course the option of reading it yourself. But most people aren't skilled enough to produce many hours of interesting listening, even if they are the author.

It is not possible to EDIT existing epub files in InDesign, but it is possible to EXPORT to an epub file. InDesign is not an epub editor. To edit epub files you will need to install other tools.
