InDesign automatically crops images when placed into document?

Before when I would place an image it would pop up with a preview and I would click and drag to drag the correct size rectangle for what I was placing, and the content would automatically fit to the frame. Now I do the same place, click and drag, but the image is either completely outside of the frame, stretched or cropped. Every time I place something, I now have to click "Fit Content to Frame". Even if I set this as a default or "Clear Frame Fitting Options" it still does this for the next item that I place. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?

Create an Object Style with the Graphic Fitting Options to fit proportionally to Frame and apply it to the Frame where you place the Image.
