Indesign cannot be started after its 1st use

Have a coworker who everytime she tries to start InDesign (exlcuding the first time after a reinstal), the start window will flash across the screen then disappear as the application immediately crashes. We've reset her preferences which allows InDesign to open, but after she closes it again it will go right to immediately crashing on startup again. We've tried reinstalling Creative Cloud, tried using the Adobe Cleaner tool, using clearing the InDesign folders in ~/Libray/Caches & ~/Library/Preferences, etc. We can get it to start once but afterwards it will never start again unless we reset preferences and she now has to do this anytime she wants to open InDesign.

She uses a Macbook Pro, Apple M1 Pro, 16gb RAM, Ventura 13.5

Hello,

I am having the exact same problem. This just started yesterday with no new downloads or files on my system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to find a workaround by uninstalling InDesign and reinstalling to 18.3 but versions 18.4 & 18.5 are still unusable.

Similar issues have been reported here and elsewhere.

It's not the best solution, but some users have found that clearing preferences and caches has allowed them to get InDesign working again. Barb Binder, who also helps users around here, has written extensively on how to clear InDesign preferences and caches in this article. Some have found this as a magic fix, others have found that they have to do it every time as they open InDesign to have it open and run smoothly. In either case, it's much faster and less invasive than clearing out InDesign and re-installing the application every time you want to get back to work.

Admittedly, it's not the best fix but it will hopefully get you up and running quickly.

Hope it helps,

Randy
