Indesign CC 2018 won't open

New Here ,
Nov 27, 2017 Nov 27, 2017

InDesign 2018 still won't load up completely for me unless I run it as Administrator.  InDesign 2017 is fine.  The other 2018 apps (Illustrator, Photoshop) are fine.

To further detail the issue (and complicate things).  If I open an InDesign file (as opposed to just opening the app) it open InDesign, opens the file, displays it completely (even asking me to update links if need be), THEN freezes.

Hi DoctrSuSE,

Please share the screenshot of "Event Viewer" as shown below with the error and its details for InDesign:

Also share if you are using any anti-virus in your machine, so that we can try to find out the cause of the crash.

Regards,

Om

So bear it mind, it just hangs forever until I kill it... so what I am seeing isn't exactly like your screenshot.  That said, here are both entries related to the issue:

I forgot you'd asked about AV as well... I use Webroot, but I've been sure to test with it disabled.

Same thing is happening to me on multiple computers running Windows 7. Indesign opens and hangs until I kill it. Nothing in the Event Veiwer logs except that I killed the program.

Running indesign as administrator does not work.

The program InDesign.exe version 13.0.1.207 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

This is getting so frustrating... over a month since I let them do remote diagnostics and testing and I have heard nothing and had no improvement.

Just out of curiosity, have you rebuilt your preferences when starting up?

Yes.  They are totally stumped and don't know how to proceed at this point.  They spent about 2 hours adjusting settings, resettings prefs, adjust security, reinstalling, etc etc etc.  2017 (and earlier) works fine and they have no idea what they changed from 2017 to 2018 related to the issue at hand.

I hope someone can help.

Make a new user on the same system and see if the problem persists when logged in as that user. That will pin point the problem to something in your settings or something in the install.

After my remote session with them, I created both a new local user and a new user within the domain and both had the same problem.

Try activating your account a different computer (you are allowed two activations for the same user) and see what happens.

If you can, try it on Windows 7 (make sure it is SP1) and Windows 10.

I've been having the same problem for the past 5 months. I was on the phone twice (for hours) with Adobe's support service but the problem continues. What I have noticed is that Adobe Indesign CC 2018 (latest version and the previous) will not open when my Mac is backing up to Time Machine. Once the back up is done running the app starts after restarting my machine. This is unacceptable, I lose hours of work, Adobe needs to address this issue, paying for a service that does not work correctly is very frustrating! Why doesn't Adobe go back to selling its software as licensed products, I truly dislike paying a monthly fee for products that do not work the way they are supposed to. Fix this Adobe
