I'm working on a very important book but Indesign CC 2019 crashes very frequently even by very simple operations on the text.

Segmentation fault hints a memory problem. That could be both a software and a hardware problem. What is the configuration of your computer, especially how much memory do you have?

If you have a program to test and stress the memory subsystem, I would lounch that one first, just to see if it's only Indesign.

Look also if there are no minor updates waiting for Indesign. It could be that a newer minor version would fix a bug.

And last, you could try to update to Indesign 2020. That also could have the bug fixed.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with InDesign. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

  1. Is this happening on a specific file or multiple files?
  2. If on a specific file, you can try converting it to IDML and then check again if it works fine.
  3. If it's happening on multiple files, could you please try resetting the preferences for InDesign by following the steps below:

  • Close all Adobe applications
  • Go to Locations:
  • ~/Library/Caches
  • ~/Library/Preferences
  • Rename Adobe InDesign and com.adobe.indesign to Adobe InDesign.old and com.adobe.indesign.old
  • Launch InDesign from the CC
  •

Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and InDesign will recreate new folders with default settings.

4. If that doesn't help, try booting the system into Safe Mode (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/global/start-safe-boot-mode-mac.html) and check how it works there. It starts your system so that it performs certain checks and prevents third party software/ services from automatically loading or opening. If it works fine in Safe mode, then there is some third party service or application like antivirus, plugins or web extensions which are conflicting with the InDesign.

Regards
