InDesign CC 2019 v 14.02 takes forever to open files created in InDesign CC 2018

I am working in InDesign CC 2019 and just updated to v 14.02. I have files created about a year ago that I am trying to open and update. When I try to open a file, it takes at least 30 minutes to open, and when it is opening the whole program is frozen.

Some things I have done already: I unchecked the 'check links' box, I open the files as a copy, I have moved the files onto my hard drive instead of a server drive. This has been going on for months, and I even spoke to an engineer at Adobe, but still am having the same issue.

I have sat here since 8:30 this morning and have been able to open and save as for only one file. Help please. I have always like adobe producrts, but I am starting to think about alternatives because this frustrating problem has been going on for so long.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this bad experience. First thing I would suggest is to update the application to latest version which is 14.0.3. If that doesn't help, please share the following details:

1. Version of OS.

2. Is it happening with a particular file or multiple files?

All this information will help me understand the situation better.

You could also try resetting the prefrences manually and let us know if that helps. Steps are given below:

For Windows

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to Locations :
  • C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
  • C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Adobe.
  •  Rename InDesign folders to InDesign.old
  • Launch InDesign from CC.

For MAC

  • Close all adobe applications
  • Go to Locations:
  • ~/Library/Caches
  • ~/Library/Preferences
  • Rename Adobe InDesign and com.adobe.indesign to Adobe InDesign.old and com.adobe.indesign.old
  • Launch InDesign from the CC

Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and InDesign will recreate new folders with default settings.

Regards,

Ashutosh
