Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this issue. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Srishti,

To confirm, you are saying that resetting Illustrator preferences will fix the InDesign launch?

hi Srishti,

(indesign, not illustrator)

i just say that when i install this new indesign version on a new os user account it work, so it's like having no preferences 'cause it's a new "empty" account.

but how to make it work on my regular account with keeping my preferences ?

thanks

I am not going to delete any thing, reset preferences, change users or any other nonsense. I am not going to contact Apple Support about this, since Adobe updated this software to 2020 and, quite simply, broke it. Please have the tech team issue a fix and make it available. Until then, my studio is unable to produce work and we will seek a prorated refund.

I'm glad there is a fix, but could you please tell me how to backtrack on what tech support had me do? Before your answer was posted, they had me remove all my fonts from FontBook. Now I painfully have to rebuild my collections as I open different documents. Can I just drag the folder of fonts back into FontBook?

Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.0.1

In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version and let us know how it goes.

Thanks!

WHen you updated to CC 2020 did you have the option checked to import previous settings and preferences checked? If so try trashing your InDesign preferences and see if resetting the program to its defaults helps.

To do so:

For Macintosh Users: The User Library folder in which InDesign’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe InDesign” and the file called “com.adobe.InDesign.plist” and delete both that folder and that file. When InDesign is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

For Windows Users: You can try the quick way of resetting on a PC which is to hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching InDesign and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset. There have been some recent reports that the window asking if you want to reset is not popping up but that the prefs are being reset anyway. If this works great but if it doesn’t you may have to manually delete them.

To do so: On Windows 7 and above the preference files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>. Make sure that InDesign is closed when you do this. When you relaunch the program it will create new preference files and the program will be at its default settings.

The advantage of manually deleting preference files is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

Indesign crashes on launch. No window opens, I just get the "stopped working" info.

I tried the copyPlugin and it didn't work.

Yeah, that link for the "CopyPlugin.zip" for macOS doesn't work. It's a 404... Anyone have the actual download?

The link at the bottom at the page will work.

I also experience issue when launching InDesign.

Got same issue with photoshop and only solution was to reinstall Mac OS.

I can't do this all the time especially for all our users having random issue with Adobe Application on Mac Os Catalina.

I suspect an interference issue with Windows Defender ATP for Mac OS.

IN-DESIGN-CRASH.jpg

Can you please let me know what will be the steps to sort this ? Already tried reinstalling but no luck

I tried the copy tool but it requires Incopy .. I have issue to launch Indesign not Incopy as it is not even installed and when I try to install nothing happens.

Pleas enote that app was working perfectly 3 days ago before the update to 15.1.1..

Gosh Adobe ! Test your updates prior to releasing them please !
