InDesign CC crashes - Lauch/Text tool

Explorer ,
Jun 18, 2013 Jun 18, 2013

I just have upgraded my cs6 to the new cc-suite.  But indesign cc does not work properly on my iMac.  Each time I want to make a text frame or work in a text frame in a old ID-file indesign cc crashes.  I have some urgent deadlines from different tasks that need to be finished. HELP.  Thanks in advance for an answer please.

Hi everyone,

Again, we apologies for all the inconveniences and frustration.

Until an update to the application is made directly available, we have created the following plug-ins to help resolve the crash issue.

Please follow the instruction below to download and install the plug-in.

http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/indesign-cc-crashing-launch.html

Mac OS:

  1. Download CopyPlugins_Mac.zip
  2. Extract the contents of the zip to a folder
  3. Launch the app
  4. Select the “Adobe InDesign CC.app” or “Adobe InCopy CC.ap

I have just solved my problem by quitting InDesign, removing all my fonts from the user/Library/Fonts and adding them back at batch at a time.

If it didn't crash I quit InDesign and added some more then opened Indesign again.

Was able to narrow it down to:

Typo3-Medium.ttf

typo3Normal.ttf

Fortuantually I have never used this font so trashed it.

thanks for all the help.  Removing the fonts helped me a lot.  I have not added them back yet, first I have to finish a few files to transfer to the press.

Check in C:\Windows\Fonts folder for any non-system fonts.

Remove them and then check

Also, please check in the new user account.

Well there alre plenty of fonts, I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to remember which are system fonts and which are not.

What exactly do you mean with 'new user account'? I didn't create any new user accounts, I was already CC member before.

I'm on a domain controlled computer in this company, sorry.

But looks like InCopy also makes problems: crashes right on the splash screen ... seems lik I'm gonna have to wait for some patches.

If you're with a company then refer the problem to your IT department or whoever controls your domain accesses.

before I removed all the fonts from the systemfolder (and copied the systemfolder into a backupfolder), incopy crashed also at the starting screen.  At this moment incopy works properly.

Now I am replacing the fonts to the systemfolder from a copyfolder and meanwile testing indesign.  Everything seem to work now.

I Have tried this on a iMac, remove system fonts and it works ok, move them back it crashes?

I had to create a new user on this iMac for CS6 to Work and now I need to do the same for CC to work?  Will I have to do this everytime Adobe release new software?

http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/indesign-cc-crashing-launch.html

1. Quit InDesign

2. Remove all fonts from the fonts folder and add a small batch of fonts back in

3. Open InDesign

4. If it doesn't crash, quit InDesign and add some more fonts.

If it crashes, you know one of that batch is the problem, narrow down further.

Look out for fonts with special characters in the name. Based on user reports, they are likely to be the fonts that are causing the issue. example: Ithornët

I moved back 10 fonts at a time while testing indesign.  Almost all fonts are moved back and indesign and incopy work well.

I did not create a new user on my mac, I had updated the software then removed cs6-app.

I followed also the procedure to reset the preferences, but indesign crashed also.

In my case the "fago"-font family caused the crash. deleted it, problem solved.

Just checked my Creative Cloud app an hour ago and saw a bug fix available for InDesign CC, which I downloaded and installed (strangely the bug fix doesn't show up on the Creative Cloud app on my other machine and when I open InDesign CC on that machine and manually check for updates on the help menu it says I'm up to date??).

Anyway, no joy. Still crashes as soon as I select the text tool or double click a text box on existing documents. Win 7 64bit. Tried rebooting, same thing again.

I'll have to work on my laptop using CC or jusr stick to CS6 until Adobe sort this out. I don't have the time to go through all of my fonts and anyway, whatever's causing the problem isn't an issue with CS6.

Alex , The Crash log on the Windows are not helpful and doesn't provide much of the details in regard with the crash.

Does your InDesign also crash when you are creating Text frame or working in the Text Frame ?

Please try the below suggestion as they ay help :-

1) Resetting the Preferences :- http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990

2) Check in the new user account

3) Remove any third party plugin installed.
