InDesign CC crashing on launch on macOS

I've just downloaded the CC version of InDesign to my MacBook Pro but every time I launch it it crashes.

I'm running OSX 10.8.3, 8GB of ram, 8GB of disc space and I've tried trashing the prefs but it doesn't even make it to that dialog window. The UI appears and that's it boom! I've sent the crash log to Adobe but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or things to try to get it up and running?

I had the exact same problem today. It was a font in my case. Just open fontbook and disable all of the user fonts. Restart Indesign... if it opens without crashing... bingo you've found the problem. Re-enable the fonts until you find the culprit.

I disable my internet and launched it. It booted up no problem.

We were able to delete cache files (Mac OS X) for InDesign (without having to reinstall InDesign) to restore functionality:

~/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign

~/Library/Caches/com.adobe.InDesign

~/Library/Caches/Adobe/CCX Welcome/.lockfile

Restarting InDesign (without having to restart the computer) brought InDesign back.

Hi, I jumped into this thread trying to figure out what could possibly be blocking the launch of ID, and in my case it was a font, as suggested by many users in this thread. The font I had to delete is ESRI North Regular.

Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Ensure that you have appropriate permissions and then restart Adobe InDesign.

These creative cloud apps are so frustrating and disappointing.

I'm a graphic designer, not a technical / computer expert. I just want to launch it and work, and I can't even open the program to start!

$69.99 a month for software that won't work without the support of a mac tech?

Also, it kept telling me there were updates available, and then it would abort (or refuse to install) the updates, with some Error 43 nonsense. I'm completely disappointed, and I want CD-Rom based software again.

Disabling fonts isnt doing it for me. The crash still happens.

I can open Indesign, but if I go to 'file' - it crashes. Spinning beach ball of death.

I've disabled all my fonts, quit InDesign, opened it again, and the same thing happens. To my understanding the font solution was for a case where InDesign DIDNT crash when you opened it with all fonts disabled, but what is the solution if InDesign STILL crashes with all fonts disabled?

to quote the correct answer up there "Restart Indesign... if it opens without crashing... bingo you've found the problem." - But thats not the case for me

I’ve been having issues with ID and AI and now PS. The easiest/fastest solution I’ve found is uninstall from the CC window and then install again.

Courier New was the font that was causing problems for me and another person deep in this thread.

From FontBook, I turned it off, rebooted machine, and viola!

Thanks Adobe. That was only a waste of how long for everyone?

In future, please put crash reports on pastebin.com and provide a link to them here.

Do you get any error messages? Did it ever work? What have you tried so far besides disabling fonts?

Do you use a font manager? Is it the latest version? Do you have any plugins for Chrome or Firefox?

June 25, 2015

Hello peter

thank you very much for your response...sorry I didn't know...First time posting here
Yes of course...thanks for telling me I will remember this in the future

So

It just bounces in the bar and then it disappears and I get the log thing

It worked on CC14 and then recently it updated by itself in the cloud and there it is...

no working at all

Nothing much

Just disabling all the fonts

Ai and Ps work fine...both of them...

Nope no font manager...just the font program from apple...with all my fonts inside (disabled)

Yes cc 2015

I don't know this...Not sure if yes or no
Thanks for the help!!!

I had the same problem. Moved the InDesign preferences folder to the trash. Relaunched the app. All good. Using InDesign CC 2014 with Suitcase Fusion 6.

I was having the  same issue until I recalled that fonts will often create many issues for InDesign current and even previous versions.
Here's how I fixed my problem using InDesign CC and CS5 on an iMac (mid 2011) running OS 10.7.5

LAUNCH Applications/Font Book/
On the nav bar on the left hi-light/click on your user profile.
Once your user profile name is selected click on Edit from the application menu bar

Select "Disable User."

Close Font Book and relaunch InDesign. This worked for me to at least engage InDesign CC so that I could down-save my file to an IDML.
The issue is that at some point you'll need to figure out which fonts are crashing.
My concern at this point is that InDesign CC crashes but my CS5 version launches just fine with my vast and somewhat ghetto assortment of fonts.

Hope this works and thanks everyone for the guidance!
