Indesign CC June 2015 update is seriously slow - HELP!

Updated Indesign last week, and it's really really slow.

Lots of lagging - very sluggish in moving things around, menus slow to respond etc. Very frustrating.

Colleague has the same issue both at work and on personal Mac.

Using Mac fully spec'd up to meet requirements.

Help!

That is not what I intended to say. It was just a step that you can try on your system & let us know the results.

Like I said, it happens across all four computers setups I use – my personal freelance (desktop and laptop) and the two agencies I work in every other day and we all use different networks and versions of computers with the same results. So it's obviously an application flaw judging by the threads that are popping up that needs attention and the money we as designers all spend monthly to use these programs should cover R & D so we don't have to waste our billable time figuring this stuff out. If Adobe wants me to do research into their programs problems then I would expect compensation for my efforts as anyone should. I just want a product that works like it used to, I don't care if it goes back to CC 2014 and just label it 2015 – no one would be the wiser and people would be happy.

ok. I am not on a network, but have two back up drives connected to my system. I disconnect both of them, restarted. No change. Then I disconnected to the internet and restarted (with back up drives still disconnected.) No change. So now I've reconnected everything so I could reply to your question.

No change. and for further review my systems is:

Mac Pro, late 2013 (although I just bought it Jan 1 of this year?)

Processor 3.7 GHz quad-core intel Xeon E5

Memory 16GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC

AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB

Yosemite 10.10.4

SO I can still mouse over all my top menu bar items till I get to "File" and then it hangs. It eventually comes up but by that time, I've moved on.

Annoying!

I had this problem. After reading on another forum thread, I set my Number of Recent Items To Display to zero and this fixed my file-menu lag/hang. Seems the app may have been stuck looking for recent files no longer available from a (currently unmounted) remote server accessed by VPN connection.

That is very interesting... in amongst all the things I've tried - restarting numerous times, a window I've never seen before popped up with "recent items" in a different format than before...

SO, YOU ARE THE BOMB!! I was also having problems with a font that was clearly installed but INDD was saying NOT there. So while I removed recent items I removed recent fonts and Guess what??? Font Fixed!!

I don't know who you are but YOU have made my day!! I've been messing with this ALL DAY!

THANK YOU!!!!!!

I changed mine to 5 because I work on so many files per day and it worked as well. Amazing someone from Adobe couldn't post that somewhere.

THANX!!!

Setting to 5 and being successful may be only a temporary fix. It appears that the problem happens when ID is looking for, and cannot find, a recent file reference on a remote location. Setting to 0 stops it from looking at all.

Hopefully Adobe will fix this problem. I literally work on 10-20 files per day and having to keep all of the folders open to access them quick doesn't work for me.

I was having terrible problems with an extremely slow file also. I received an update for indesign 2015 today -- 8/11/15. It looks like it's working. I was on the phone with an Adobe tech person for a long time earlier today. She decided that my file was too large (27MB). I don't understand why I wasn't told this patch was coming out, or why I can't find it announced anywhere on the internet either.

27 mb is not overly large for a .indd file. Is this file originally from an earlier version? If so, a trip through IDML could help. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

I am having exactly the same problem and its driving me nuts! This is the last time I update InDesign to a new version.

Attempting changing the "recent files" to "0" to see if that helps. Will report back.

Was fine after the change to the file handling, now it's back to SLOW GO. Not sure what it's looking for in the background, but it's definitely looking for something. Oh yeah, and the file I was testing it on this morning is only 2.3mb and flew yesterday.

Did you change the recent fonts too? Mine's been fine since. BUT I did do the upgrade that was posted yesterday. I only had the slow problem with the file menu and missing fonts.

I hear ya. I haven't changed mine back to a number. Was in the middle of a job and decided I would like to finish that one before "experimentation."

I used the patch/update, did a "save as", and then exported it as an idml. It had to do it 2-3 times before it worked. At one point it slowed down again, so I'm hoping that won't happen again.

The fix has held for a day and a half now, so it looks like this worked for me. That would be: the 8/11 update and saving it as an idml (a couple of times).

My work PC is a $13,000 beast with solid state drives and all.

And InDesign pathetically lags. Almost crippling and very difficult to work with. Copy and paste has a 5-10 seconds delay.

In my endless searching, I've found that if you hit TAB to hide all open panels, InDesign then flies. But it's not a practical solution. I need panels open and can't work using keyboard shortcuts alone.

So the problem has something to do with open panels.

35 seconds before even the 'whirling pizza' disappears and I can actually save or export a file. This is just not good for production. Gone back to 2014 version. Haven't got time to muck about with this any more. My advice is to use previous version.

This is happening to our company as well. There are 5 of us on Macs running InDesign 2015 (as well as other Adobe software) and 2 of them have serious problems with lagging—menus taking 5-10 seconds to respond, moving objects on the page doing the same. None of the suggested fixes help. Converting back to 2014 is not really an option since we all share files. Adobe, please help...

Did you try the InDesign update from 14 hours ago? It may have been posted earlier, but that's when I did the update! The version would be 11.1.0.122.
