Hi
I've been working in InDesign for a week now and since yesterday I started noticing that at times InDesign won't undo and I am not able to save my file. I keep hitting command + s while working but it just doesn't save or give an error message. If I go on the File menu all the save and save as commands are grayed out. If you close the file and click on the save button InDesign just gives a message that the file cannot be saved. I have to close the file without saving and redo all the work. Because InDesign doesn't give an error when pressing command + s I would do a lot of work under the impression everything gets saved but it doesn't and I keep losing a lot of work.
Also CC runs very slow. There are times when the program just "freezes" for awhile while InDesign does somethings in the background and only after it is done you can start working again. The pages panel takes ages to load the previews onto the pages and while it is doing so I cannot do anything at all.
Starting to think I should have stayed with CS6.

Well - looks like I'm jumping on this bandwagon too - I just downloaded and updated to Adobe Cloud and OS X on my work computer today. I can't undo (it is greyed out) in InDesign and my "save" and "save as" buttons are not greyed out - they just don't save my work. It takes me to the screen that it should - I type in a name and everything - but it doesn't actually save the file it just does nothing. I switched back to CS6 to try and save and it's doing the same thing. I've tried to both the server and to my local drive. Both on brand new files and on established files. I am on version 9.2.0.69 .
thanks.

This worked for me. After reading the posts about it being a font issue i.e. Non Adobe fonts, I tride this:
My file had Helvetica neue (apple) and Helvetica neue Postscript type1 fonts in it. I could not get it to save or save as.{Indesign CC9.2 or CS6. (Apple 10.8.5 )}
I did a replace all fonts with Minion regular (an Adobe font) and was able to save the file.
Of course, this doesn't do me a lot of good because it's the wrong font but at least it isolates the problem.

I just started having this issue yesterday. Same save, save as undo all greyed out. I am current with CC. It seems to be working fine when I open my files and begin working but randomly it will start greying out first save, then save as goes as well as undo. I have turned off sync and restarted indd without preferences. Stil having issues. I do use bridge to place photos but even if I don't do that and make simple corrections to the file it will end up greying out save, save as and undo. Any other solutions anyone can offer??? I can get small amounts of work done but then I have to start over. shut down indd and sometimes even restart my computer. help!

I haven't had this issue for several weeks but it just happened this morning when I was copying and pasting from another IN Design document.

We also had it on another machine the day before. Latest ID-version. Probably a CS6-legacy document, but is barely an excuse. Saving/as worked, but Undo was reduced to maybe 1x.
It is totally unpredictable. Haven't had the bug for some days and suddenly - WHOOOOM.
First time ever that folks here ask me if we could downgrade (also because very few service-partners work with CC due to the rent-per-month-model)

HD Schellnack,
Similar experience in our studio too, including the downgrade requests from service-partners.
We've been able to work around all the hiccups fortunately, without too many losses.

I am experiencing this issue with placed pdf's in an InDesign Doc.
I run Mac 10.7.5 and Indesign CC.
When problem comes about the undo becomes greyed out. My save and save as are not greyed out. But they do not save. No error is generated either. So if I choose to save, InDesign acts like it is saving, but nothing happens.
My workaround is to save as IDML.
When I open the IDML I can not undo or save on that file, so I have to re expoet as IDML.
Th wierd thing is that other files are not effected, I can open and save other files just fine while the corrupted file is open in the background. So it looks like the problem is content specific. I was able to eport my troubled file as a pdf and reimport the file into InDesign, dropping in a placed pdf on each page.
Looks to me like placing pdf files from my client into the InDesign doc is causing InDesign to not be able to save the files.
I will explore this further when time permits.
Very Frustrating!!!

I placed the client supplied pdf that I thought was the problem in a new InDesign file using the place multipage pdf script and it saves with no problems.
So I can not recreate the problem using the same placed pdf files.

Same issue here.
Saving as IDML file is not a solution that will work for me as this is a variable job - using XMPie, and it requires me to save before I can dynamically print the document. And Since I can't save ... I can't run the variable!
I am on the most recent version of CC and InDesign CC.

A new wrinkle. I opened an old file that had a mix of Helvetica neue TT and T1 in ID6 on my Macbook (10.9.1). The file would not save.
It will not save on an iMac running 10.8.5 either.
Open the same file in ID6 on my iMac (10.6.8) and it saves fine.
This is not isolated to CC but it does seem isolated to newer OS and (in my case) Helvetica neue.
I'm trying to be helpful but you haven't posted anything of use while you continue to take my money. What gives?

Thanks BienzBliemer for running the script and providing the error message. It may help us in reproducing the issue.

This is my error:
Error Number: 90940
Error String: Cannot save document because there are open transactions in process on the database.

Hm. The exact same message BienzBliemer has…
@BDinkar – something new about this?
What is getting wrong here?

We have provided the java script to get to know the error message on trying to save the file through script. Since the Save/Save functionality is disabled and you are trying to Save the file through Java Script, it is throwing an error that "Some transactions are in process in the database". This is where the problem is, internally there are some transaction that are open and that is why Save/Save as is disabled. Now with this error we are trying to simulate the problem at our end.

@BDinkar – what exactly is meant by the term "transactions" ?

So, this issue isn't fixed yet? Because I need to be able to save the work I do today. I also can not Undo anything thing. What's the deal?

I'm livid about this bug. This has ruined several hours of work for me this morning. Critical functionality being disabled, like "Save", "Save As", "Uno' and "Redo" with absolutely no way of saving or exporting the work (even saving to PDF from the print dialog box is disabled by Adobe for god-only-knows-what reason) is absolutely unexcusable by Adobe's testing team. Get this fixed, and quickly.

I also have this problem. Began today. May not undo. May not save. Started a brand new CC file. Place an Illustrator logo into it.
No save.No undo. That is all I have done. Nothing else.
Have used the IDML work around. Am getting by for now. Hope Adobe will soon have a solution.

Can also throw my name in this particular hat. Mac OSX 10.8.4, Indesign CC 9.1, Wacom touch driver 6.3.3-3.
Not provoked by drag-and-dropping images from Bridge or Finder.
Looking forward to a resolution.

I am also experiencing this problem frequently. I use a Bamboo tablet, it happens to me at least 3 times a day. VERY FRUSTRATING! Mac OX X version 10.7.5 Please help!

Hi Sandy,
My problem has occurred with my Bamboo Capture, and I've avoided it by turning off touch functionality whenever I'm using InDesign. I can use one of my side buttons to toggle it on/off so I can do it quickly. It's not great being without it because I like the touchpad, but it's been a good workaround for the time being.
See if that works for you.

Thanks ElWarboGrande I will give that a try. What I had been doing was unplugging and using a mouse which side steps the issues with the wacom.
