Hi
I've been working in InDesign for a week now and since yesterday I started noticing that at times InDesign won't undo and I am not able to save my file. I keep hitting command + s while working but it just doesn't save or give an error message. If I go on the File menu all the save and save as commands are grayed out. If you close the file and click on the save button InDesign just gives a message that the file cannot be saved. I have to close the file without saving and redo all the work. Because InDesign doesn't give an error when pressing command + s I would do a lot of work under the impression everything gets saved but it doesn't and I keep losing a lot of work.
Also CC runs very slow. There are times when the program just "freezes" for awhile while InDesign does somethings in the background and only after it is done you can start working again. The pages panel takes ages to load the previews onto the pages and while it is doing so I cannot do anything at all.
Starting to think I should have stayed with CS6.

We are having the same issue. Also seems to be caused by dragging images into InDesign CC direct from the finder rather than importing them via the import command.

Yes, this is the issue. If I place images using the place command, rather than dragging and dropping, everything works perfect.

Hum, lost four projects so far. …no need to mention that i am not pleased, is there?
Found this thread and tried to reproduce the error. And got Lucky! On my OS 10.8.4 machine i did the following:
Opened a new document -> pasted some Text from an different iD CC File and drag and dropped two tiffs from the desktop. The second image then managed to grey out the save / save as from the menu.
The js mentioned above did the following:
I did manage to save previous projects as imdl but could not reopen them.
By the way, did someone else see the strange textbox resize behavior that happens at the same time things go crazy? The Textbox seams to resize but it takes a while for the text to reflow in a jumpy way.
Any help appreciated!

@all – the above JavaScript (ExtendScript) in post #34 cannot work as expected on Mac OSX.
At best you will save a file named "Test\test.indd" on the desktop…
Instead I would recommend a slightly altered version:
var myFolder = new Folder("~/Desktop/Test");
if (!myFolder.exist) myFolder.create();
app.activeDocument.save(myFolder.fsName + "/" +Date.now()+"_test.indd");
See the "/" instead of "\\".
I changed it, so every time you execute it (and if it will not throw an error!), you'll get a new file with an unique file name.
("Date.now()" should be sufficient enough to generate a new sequence of a 13 digit number every time you try).
Or maybe even better: save a copy of your file:
var myFolder = new Folder("~/Desktop/Test");
if (!myFolder.exist) myFolder.create();
app.activeDocument.saveACopy(myFolder.fsName + "/" +Date.now()+"_test.indd");
All testing on Mac OS X 10.6.8.
@BienzBliemer – I think, the above script(s) will not work in your scenario, because InDesign has not finished something that goes on in the background. A hidden modal dialog that is not answered should not be the problem, because you can start up a script …

I am having the same issue (grayed out save and save as). I was told to disable the sync features, but the problem persisted.
Just today, I was able to get it to fail on me twice in a row after a drag-and-drop onto a frame in indesign. Normally, I will start in bridge to find my photo, grab it, press command+tab to switch back to InDesign, and drop the file where I need it (whether that's straight to the artboard, onto a frame, or on top of an existing photo to replace it). If it helps troubleshooting, I do use spaces in osx (but bridge and indesign are locked to the same space). I have also had issues where I command+tab from indesign to bridge and the entire bridge ui is not clickable. I have to switch to another program and then back again to get it back. I have all my creative cloud apps fully updated. I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5
Update: I can reproduce the grayed out save and save as options EVERY time on one of my files by doing a drag-and-drop from bridge.

Are you able to save, if you avoid the use of any EPS? If you use AI instead? Or PDF?

If I 'Place' that same logo into INDesCC. It's fine. Just can't drag and drop from Bridge.
Otherwise, it's like the control key is down. It's too late once you realise you have to wipe and start again.

It probably won't help, but it won't hurt to try trashing the prefs and you might get lucky. see Replace Your Preferences

Thank you all for providing your valuable feedback. While we work towards resolving the issues, we want to take this engagement to the next level. We’d like to invite a limited number of people, who have been facing performance issues (that includes the file-save disabled issue), to our beta program in order to work more collaboratively with them and to help us test the issues that we have fixed.
If you are interested, please drop a note with your email ID to "sharewithID@adobe.com"

Hi!
I am a new CC subscriber, after working with InDesign from the first version, and am experiencing all the issues listed in this thread:
I am using InDesign 9.1, with OS 10.8.4 on a MacBookPro Retina, and using a Bamboo Wacom Tablet (Driver 5.3.3-3). My issue was opening a document created with an earlier version of ID, which I saved with a new name, and started working. The Saving & Undo functions are greyed out, and I have lost much time.
I am using a British Keyboard, which is the only keyboard installed
Any suggestions? My workflow is severely limited! Am so frustrated that such an issue has not been solved inso many months. I waited to subscribe to CC, so that the bumps would be resolved. Obviously I didn't wait long enough. I have had to revert to ID 5.5, but wonder why I am paying for this subscription?
I would be happy to beta-test, if you are still looking for testers.
Peter

Hi Peter,
There are a lot of helpful tips in this forum. I have found that the NUMBER ONE thing you must do is make sure that the TOUCH feature on your Bamboo tablet is turned OFF and never accidentally clicked on while working in InDesign -- or InDesign CC will go kompletely kablooey.
This isn't the only problem or solution, but is a good place to start.
Really a shame that Adobe and Wacom aren't better friends.

For the first time in two years I opened InDesign without it crashing 8-10 times (not exaggerating) and was so excited. I opened a couple of documents, some created originally in IN6 and some in InDesign CC and none of them will save or allow "Undo." Variations of this has been ongoing for me since IN 5.5. I have spent hours on the phone with various levels of tech support and nothing is ever resolved. I have done three clean installs of InDesign and nothing changes.
Never used Bridge, don't have a Tablet and my iMac is the only computer here, so no servers, etc.
Have not been able to export to IDML or a PDF on any of these documents, INDesign just crashes.
It also was very, painfully sllow on each command, I thought I had been teleported to 2001.
I have read the threads, followed the suggestions and sometimes they seem to work partially.
I am an hour from a gas station and five hour drive from any real tech support to go to in person, so calling a tech support person in (as I was told once) is not an option.
What are the rest of you doing to get your InDesign work done? I tried Pages, but it is just not the same. I will for sure not pay $50 a month for Photoshop and InDesign when the price goes up. I begrudge the $25 a month I pay now!
THANKS for any advice or ideas or workarounds. InDesign has become something I dread working in instead of a fun program to use.
Kathy

If you've read the other threads you already know that Adobe is aware of
the issues some users are having and will hopefully have another update
out shortly. In the mean time have you updated to 9.1 already? If not,
please do so.
If you were indeed having as many issues with 5.5 as you say, then I
would also be looking at your computer as part of the issue. That is not
normal and unlike the issues with CC were not widely reported at all.
You've given us no system specs so it's not possible to suggest anything
at all until you do.

I am trying to follow this forum, it seems like it's from quite some time ago, but my save/save as menu as well as my undo options are all greyed out and unable to be used in Indesign CC. I'm going to have to lose my entire file as it will not save it no matter what I've tried.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues still? I've tried with AND without Wacom tablet use. I've tried copy and pasting everything into a new document. I've tried saving as "Untitled-1"... nothing works.
help please!

Please check the version ( Go to InDesign -. About InDesign with command key pressed). It should be 9.2.0.69.
Now if you are still facing issues with this latest version, please let us know if you are seeing undo disabled or it is enabled and still not working? Also, if you create a new document and then do certain operations and do undo-redo, is the result same?
Thanks,
Dinkar

I've just checked this. I'm having this problem on only one iMac at my office (we have 3 running InDesign CC). All are running 9.2.0.69 and only one machine has this problem.
I just created a new document and I am experiencing the same issues.

I am on the latest - 9.2.0.69. The undo will sometimes allow one use, and sometimes none. This applies to old and new documents.

To be specific. Both instances happen: sometimes undo is disabled. Other times it is enabled but doesn't work.

@egg, @prestigeprinting,
Could you please provide some steps after which you are seeing the issues. A video showing the problem would also help. Also is it happening with some particular files? What happens when you work on a new file?
@All,
We tried fixing the problem wherein when users were dragging -dropping file from Finder/Bridge/DropBox, the Save/SaveAs and Undo/Reo were gettnig disabled. So, if you are experiencing the problems after performing the same steps, please let us know.
Thanks,
Dinkar
