Indesign Character DropDown Memory

Hi,

So this is a question I've been meaning to ask for a while but keep forgetting!

Back in the day, when you selected a font in Indesign, the next time you clicked the character drop-down menu to change/choose another font, it took you back to that font in its alphabetic place in the list so you could keep scrolling up/down fonts from where you left off.
eg: if you scrolled down to fonts starting with E and selected one, the next time you click the character drop down menu it would take you to that font in the E’s so you could keep scrolling down to F’s and onwards. Now it just starts back at the top alphabetical font and you have to scroll all the way back down to the E’s.

This feature has been missing quite a while hence why it's been something I've been meaning to ask lol,
Is this a change Adobe made, or is it a preference I need to have selected?

To be honest Kristy, I don't remember that behavior. Now what happens is that your most recently used fonts appear at the top of your drop-down font menu which, for me, is even better. You also now have the option to label font favorites, and filter out all non-favorites in your list. One more thing, most recently used fonts can be sorted at the top either alphabetically or by order of use. You'll find this preference in the, no surprise, Preferences menu.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I agree with Scott's response. In addition to that, I'd recommend checking out this help article to know more about managing your fonts in InDesign.

Hope it helps.
