I have ther new M3 14" macbook pro, so Sonoma was alread preinstalled. With an incredibly tight deadline to work on, InDesign is constantly crashing upon launch (a little after launching). No matter what document I open and the with the latest InDesign update, it still occurs.
With a deadline looming, of course it's now very frustrating.
Thank you all. I'll pay attention to any links and fonts which require the internet before opening a doc, saying that InDesign doesn't give you which leeway if it crashes upon opening. Hopefully they will look into solving the bug or at least make it more user friendly on this respect.
For now it seems to be working 🙂

Which exact versions of InDesign and Sonoma do you have?
Have you tried resetting the InDesign preferences back to the factory defaults?
If you're working on an old InDesign document, perhaps created on your previous computer, save it as an IDML document to clear out the crud that builds up and reopen it with an incrementally named InDesign document.

Hi Derek, Sonoma 14.3.1
Both InDesign 19.3 and 19.2 are suffering the same fate (currently on 19.3). Once I open InDesign, it crashed almost straight after so I don't get the chance to go through any preferences or save my file as an IDML. I have read across the internet that Sonoma and InDesign currently don't work well together? 😕

First things first; update Sonoma to 14.4.1

And after updating, try restoring your InDesign preferences and caches. Here's how:

In my experience the main issues with crashing is bad fonts. Also if you have too low RAM that makes it more volitile. Other issues that you can eliminate is try turning off cloud serrvices (iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive etc.)… I assume you have enough RAM and Harddisk. If you can clean out your fonts on the computer that is also a normal prepress precaution.
(Can't help reading insomnia… but that's how my mind works)

Hi all, I'm dumbfounded. Now that I'm in an area with better internet, InDesign seems to be working totally fine. This was very strange as previously I was opening local documents. So it seems that InDesign can't cope without internet?
A bit wary of this as being a digital nomad, I can't always assume to be working in areas with great connectivity.

Hmm interesting. Could be if you have a recovery file that is trying to start up and it wants font activation then the internet would cause an issue. Same goes for cloud services.

All I know is that I recall seeing other reports about issues with InDesign (hangs/crashes) in situations where internet connection has some issues. Not much help here but it's possible that you encountered similar problems.
