Indesign crash when opening text to image window

I am using a macbook air M3 up to date, and last version of Indesign.

Before the recent updates, the text to image tool worked fine. But recently, i cannot use it at all, for as soon as I open this tool, it makes indesign crash.
I tried to install the previous version, but did not make any difference.

Would it be a conflict between IOS and indesign ?

Other than that, Indesign works fine, as long as I do not open the text to image tool.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi ! I've tried IDML but does not change anything.
I'll try relinking.

Thank you.

There is another approach to fix corrupted documents - create a new, blank document, with the same page size, then move all pages from the old document to the beginning of this new, blank document - then delete last, empty page.

In the future, to avoid corruption - do Save As with a new name - either at the end of the day or week - depends on how much you've been working on this document.

When you do just Save - InDesign is preserving Undo History - which is no longer accessible when you close your document - but is still part of the document.

Next time, when you open your document - InDesign needs to ANALYSE all this Undo History to get to the actual version of the file - which takes time and can lead to corruption.

Save As is a basic "housekeeping" - it gets rid of this Undo History and reorganise the document - so when you open it next time - everything is in the right place from the start.

But there is no reason to do Save As instead of Save - all the time 😉

Of course, after you do Save As - you need to continue your work on this new file.

One more bonus point - you automatically get a backup / versioning.

You should also start using some cloud service - OneDrive, Google Drive, DropBox, etc. - they also automatically provide backup and versioning - but it won't be the same as Save As.

Hi @flo_3779,

I hope Bill and Robert’s suggestions helped(if not tried yet, please try). If still facing the issue, try running InDesign in Safe Mode and let me know if anything changes.

Also, have you submitted a crash report via the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog box? I checked using your community email but couldn’t find any logs. If you haven’t submitted one yet, please do so and share the email address you used via DM on the community, so I can have the logs reviewed by the product team. You can follow the steps here: Adobe Crash Reporter.

Meanwhile, please go through the troubleshooting steps in this generic crash guide and let me know if anything helps.

Looking forward to your update!

Hi @flo_3779,

Thanks for checking that! It’s possible that something in the document is triggering the crash. Could you try exporting the file as an IDML (File > Export > InDesign Markup [IDML]) and then reopening it in InDesign to see if that resolves the issue?

Also, check if any linked assets, like images or fonts, might be causing the crash. Try relinking or temporarily removing them to see if that makes a difference.

The product team is actively investigating this, but in the meantime, let me know how these steps work out for you!

Do you use Typeface font manager app for Mac - that is reported to cause problems with latest version of InDesign?

Hi, I don't think. I've just downloaded fonts from Adobe, that's all.

Try resetting your InDesign preferences. This is usually necessary after an update as newer versions of the program rarely respond well to preferences that were set for an earlier coded version. This process will restore the program to its defaults.

To reset preferences on a Mac:

The User Library folder in which InDesign’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe InDesign” and the file called “com.adobe.InDesign.plist” and delete both that folder and that file. When InDesign is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

The advantage of manually deleting preference files in this manner is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

Thank you for you answer and sorry for the delay. I did what you said, but the result is the same, unfortunately.
