Indesign crashed on export to pdf screen, failing to start since

When exporting to pdf, indesign just stopped working, leaving the export window just grey.. i tried to give it several hours, but nothing happened.

now always when i start it, it will just leave the middle window (where the recent documents are listed) blank grey, and it is not responding.

when i try to start it by double-clicking the document, it will hang at different stages of actually opening it, and stops responding..

and another issue- Photoshop stops working when i try to open pdf files..

i can open pdfs in Reader and Acrobat, no problems there..

CS5 versions of both.
