InDesign Crashes (Links Error)

Hi everyone (anyone!),

InDesign Verion: #18.3

I have been working on a large InDesign 'ordering' file which is subsequently exported as a PDF and then used, through PDF form creation to be a 'submitted email file'.

As this has many products and changes 'reasonably feqauently', I have many updates/additioas/removals from this InDesign file.  There are a many small thubnail images to make the form more interesting and intuitive but recently had an issue where 26 links were not found.  I still have the images, but on trying to 're-link' anything the program crashes.

If I click Window>Links, InDesign immediately closes.

If I choose not to try to re-link the images, then I can update and change the file as usual so all is not lost... and any images that are by way of error 'low-res' is fine as I save the PDF as a 'reduced size file' anyway, so having a slightly pixellated image is fine... but it is annoying, and I would like to rectify this before I possibly get an instance of the filel not opening at all (it took a long time to create!).

I am even fine to create new links or introduce new images in case there is an issue with the source image file... but the program will not allow it.

I do get an error message when I start the program stating thet 'the file may be damaged - do I want to open it anyway?' - and clicking OK, opens the file fine.

Thanks - any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Rishabh_Tiwari ,

Thanks for taking the time to deal with this - it is very much appreciated.

And it worked.  Saving it as a IDML file allowed me to open it without crashes... I was then able to successfully restore the links and save back as an INDD file.

My fault... I had set the links initially and then moved the images from my downloaded folder into a Dropbox folder.

Note to self... "Do the housekeeping first, then set the links!"

Thanks again

Simon
