InDesign CS6 startup problems since downgrading from macOS Catalina to Mojave

Hi

I run CS6 on a MacBook Pro 15 and use InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator daily without any issues.

However, I updated to macOS Catalina a few days ago thinking that all the apps were 64 bit. Only to find that InDesign CS6 is the only app in the suite that is still 32 bit!

So I’ve downgraded from Catalina to Mojave (10.14.6). I then ran restore from the latest Time Machine backup. Everything restored as it should and both CS6 Photoshop and Illustrator open and run perfectly. However, InDesign is not. It is displaying the following messages in the start-up screen before it crashes - (attached a screenshot of the first part of the Apple problem report) -

  1. Registering 238 plug-ins
  2. Completing Object Mode

Many thanks. Any support would be greatly appreciated.

At the moment no version is officially compatible with 10.15.

CS6 itself is officially guaranteed up to 10.9.
Also, if you want to return the OS from now on, the OS must be reinstalled, and CS6 is also required.
However, the updater for CS6 and below has already been distributed, so only the initial version can be entered.
Therefore, future use itself has a great risk.

You'll need to install JnDesign CS6 using its installer. Restoring from a Time Machine backup often doesn't work because it doesn't properly handle the way Adobe stores its app files (spread in many locations).

So uninstall everything you can. I would use the CC Clearner (which is supposed to remove CS 6 apps). But you may need to contact Adobe Customer Support to get access to the CS6 installer. You should be eligible to get access to it if you purchased CS6.

Thank you Steve. I purchased CS6 and although I accept its an old version, it had been running perfectly in Mojave up until the need to downgrade from Catalina. I’ve since downloaded the .dmg folder from my Adobe purchase history and wil try that once I’ve run CC Cleaner.

    Hello,

Adobe CS6 is quite an old version which was released years ago (2012) and was not tested on newer macOS like Mojave or Catalina ( You may check the system requirements on https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-suite/kb/cs6-system-requirements.html ).

I would recommend you to either upgrade to the latest version or use the compatible OS mentioned in the link above.

    Regards,

    Ashutosh

Thanks Ashutosh. Yes i agree it's an old software but it was still working perfectly until the downgrade of macOS. I accept that I may have to subscribe to InDesign as a single app but in the meantime will try what Steve is suggesting in his message. Thanks again
