I put all the indd files on usb and worked on two pcs. And suddenly my USB stopped working. My PC can no longer recognise it. I tried with some recovery tool (testdisk) and recovered 2 files but 15 are corrupted.
Do you have any idea what to do?
15 .indd's are lost, 15 days of work I've done...

I know you're not going to want to hear this but working on a USB drive is a bad idea. Whether those files are salvageable or not, I don't know but if you post one or two them somewhere perhaps someone will have some ideas.

I know that, but what can I do about it now - it's a lesson for the future...
Did you know? Where can I post files?

You should use USB drive as a mean of transportation - not the working medium.
And you should also make copies of the files you work on.
And at least once a day do a Save As with a new name.

If you can get them back on your PC there is a blind IDML script that you can run - it might work on the USB I don't know.
It tries to open the file in the background (open but not open (schrodinger's open/??) anyway - it might or might nor work.

How to run this code script?
Thanks

You need to save it into the Scripts Panel - on a PC, you can highlight any of the scripts already present and from the menu select REVEAL IN EXPLORER.

Thank you for all your help, but nothing has helped me. I had to create chapters from scratch.
I have learnt the lesson of keeping my files safe in different places, in the cloud and on my HDD.
