InDesign doesn't recognize diacritic shortcut

I need to place a caron over an r, with InDesign CC on Windows 10. Using Cambria, the keyboard shortcut for this is ALT + 0345. This works in Microsoft Word, but when I type that using InDesign, it comes up with "Y". The only way I can produce the r with a caron is to copy and paste from the glyphes menu. Why doesn't the keyboard shortcut work in InDesign?

You're right that it does work differently in InDesign. Adobe wants us to use the Glyphs panel to insert special characters. You can make your own glyphs set with characters you use often. But I don't know of any way to assign a keyboard shortcut to a glyph.
