InDesign doesn’t save to folders

When you save an InDesign file to a folder it just makes strange pages. OK you can get the file back by going to recent files under the file menu but this is not ideal if you are working on many different files.  Exporting to pdf works fine but nothing else does.

Good something worked, I kept clicking on the Microsoft pop up and eventually it said choose an app on your computer - sorted!

You can package the InDesign file. It will make a nice folder with everything included for the job. Only thing is if you need to make a change, you should use original files and then repackage. This method is for showing proofs or sending to a printer and also tells you of any potential problems.

I think you need to explain your problem in more detail. I save InDesign files to folders all the time and I don't get "strange pages."  Can you create a screen capture before you save the file to the folder and another one after to show us what you mean. And what do you mean by "exporting to pdf works fine but nothing else does." Are you experiencing other problems.

Please tell us more: Please tell us what operating system (exactly) you're running. Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using. Did you just do an update in InDesign and the problems started then?

Hi @Sally Maltby ,

Thanks for reaching out. Please set InDesign as the default application to open .indd files and the file with extension .idlk is a lock file which means that this specific file is open. To set the default application, please refer to this article

Let us know if this helps or if you need any further assistance.

Regards
