Hi - Trying to open an .indd file from 2000. Have tried in all previous InDesign versions back to 2000, and also on previous old iMacs and laptops. Always get this message: "Cannot open the file "resume.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application."
As previously suggested in another thread, deleting an ~ace file would do the trick. Am not locating any pertinent file containing ~ace. I've also tried other suggestions in other threads. Nada. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

Are you sure it's an InDesign file?

Hi Bob, Yup it's an InDesign file... created in 2000. I was using PageMaker before that. But being a 2000 file, must be .indd

Mac or Windows? Does it have a file extension?

Mac. Actually 2 files. Not sure which one is the one I need. One is .indd extension. The other no file extension. Unix Executable File. Am thinking maybe PageMaker and was created earlier. Opening either of them from within InDesign, they both come up with the same message...

As we now know it's not an InDesign file. I had my doubts since I have some InDesign 1.5 files floating around here that still open.

It's a PageMaker file:
You need CS6:

Many thanks Robert! I am presuming both files are PageMaker. OK, I'll take it from here. You're amazing 🙂

Sorry, thought both were the same - the other one is WORD - you need to change the extension to ".doc".
PG CV is PageMaker
PRI_CV.indd is DOC

Awesome job! I changed the ext to .doc. Lost all the formatting but at least have accessed the content. Merci!!

You are welcome.
The 1st file is also almost "plain text" - I mean there is a text contents visible - you should be able to open it in a Notepad or something.

Hi Brad, Many thanks for the offer. That's awesome! No need as I've already managed to reconstruct the file, but if I run into the same problem with "old" INDD or PM files, I'll take you up on it. Much appreciated.
