Question

InDesign file lock on SharePoint

Hi all,

We are planing to migrate all our files to MS SharePoint

We ran some tests and when InDesign file is opened on one machine and someone else opens the same file on another machine while it's being opened by someone else it not getting locked. This creates an issue when two people might be editing this file at the same time.

From my undertanding the way it suppose to work is "Whenever you open an InDesign file, the program creates a “lock” file — with an “.idlk” file name extension — in the same folder."

Unfortunately, like on Dropbox, OneDrive and other sharing services, the lock files do not sync. Communication is the key to not having an issue.

This post is a couple years old--has anyone found a workaround since then? It is a major problem for us since transitioning to Sharepoint earlier this year.

My previous post disappeared, but here it is again. Based on the MS KB article below you should be able to exclude idlk files from syncing using a registry change in Windows.
