Indesign Files are now aliases - Help

Community Beginner ,
Apr 28, 2021 Apr 28, 2021

So I was trying to open one of the Indesign files in my external drive and it won't open. It says that the Alias "File-name.indd" can't be opened because the original item can't be found.

Is there something I can do to fix this or is it that my hard drive is going bad?

Thanks

If you're on Mac OS, you can select one of the files, go to File>Get Info (while in the Finder, not from within InDesign), and go down to the Open with: section. If it's not set to InDesign, change it, then hit the Change All button. There's something similar in Windows, but I'm a Mac guy, so I'm not sure how to do that.
