InDesign formatting panels stopped working

The following panels have stopped working in my InDesign 17.4, some are just blank and have no options or fields, others have fields but I can't select them (although the up and down arrows do have an effect):

• Paragraph
• Character
• Text Wrap
• Colour
• Gradient

This is typical of corrupt preferences. Reset them.
