After you link an excel file to indesign, is there a way to rename the link in the Link panel in indesign? Right now it shows the file path. I would like to make it a simpler name (such as "September")

As far as I know you cannot rename links.

Interesting, but potentially dangerous since it is renaming the linked files on disk, which will be a disaster if they're used by other files as well. If you are going to do this, I would suggest first packagiung the file to create a copy and a links folder with copies of the links so you don't reanme the originals.

    yes of course to rename a link the original file must be renamed. the script assumes that users know what they're doing.

    Renaming of the link seems not possible as @Peter Spier mentioned. One thing you can do is add the data you need displayed in the Description field of the asset and then switch on the display of Description field from the Link panels Panel Options.

      One way to do it would be to add the info as a keyword using Bridge and then open the Links Panel panel menu and add Keywords as a field to display in the panel or link info, or both.

      There's also a Description field available, but I couldn't figure out how to access it.
