Question

Indesign linking to other indesign document

Please can someone help me out. I am so fraustrated.

I have designed one indesign document with individual pages all with different people and information. (Doc A)

I have another indesign doc (Doc B) where I have placed Doc A - and laid 6 up on 1 page all in a specific order. So the artwork is linked.

When I make changes to doc A - I expect the changes to filter through to Doc B and keep the correct order of the pages/people.

But when I relink - the pages (doc a) change order and mess everything up in Doc B.

Not too sure why this is happening? Is there a way to keep the links linking to the same pages - but update artwork.

Maybe your documents got corrupted?

Try IDMLing on both - export as IDML, open, save with a new name - add "_NEW" before ".indd" - do not overwrite your original files.

Then re-name your original files - add "_OLD" before ".indd" and then rename your new files - remove "_NEW" so they have the same names as original files.

Open your new IDML'ed file and update.

How did you linked the pages?

I've just tried it - and it works fine:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

What is your Platform, OS & InDesign versions?

Even if I Undo the update - re-arrange pages on the right - and update - it's still fine:

I am on Mac with the latest version. I'm not too sure why it's not working.

if you try place page 5 and 8 next to one in doc B, make changes to those pages in doc a (add picture) Save and then re link. What happens
