This is the second time this has happended in a month now. I've been working on a large annual report, saved continuoulsy throughout the day, come in the next day and the everything that I have done is gone, the document will show maybe just 2 pages that were saved earlier in the day prior and the rest all blank - all work gone 😞

What is going on? I dont want to recreate this from scratch again - and its just the same document in the recent files with the 2 pages.

Please dont assume I just didnt save it -  I did, all throughout the day.

What versions of InDesign and the operating system? Also, in addition to saving regularly, make sure you're running an incremental backup solution (Time Machine, cloud service backup etc.)

InDesign 2025 on Windows 10

The IT guys seem to have worked it out - this was their response. In the end we couldnt recall the file and had to re-do it again today.

The issue appears to have been caused by the Zee Drive application not being able to upload the file quickly enough before Adobe InDesign marked it as save. This, combined with the computer being logged out shortly afterward, likely led to the disruption and also corrupted the Zee Drive file recovery.

To prevent similar issues in the future, we are prioritizing improvements to the handling of large files, with the aim of reducing disruptions and ensuring smoother file management.

In the meantime, I recommend saving your work in a secondary location, such as your desktop, in addition to the shared drive when working with larger files.

Network speed - lag - is always a problem for InDesign.

Are you doing just Save - and work on the same file for a month?

And at some point you have all the pages - but they are empty?

Then your file got corrupted.

You can try IDMLing - export as IDML, open, save with a new name - do not overwrite your original file.

To avoid similar problem in the future - you should do Save As with a new name - at least every other day.

When you do Save - InDesign is saving Undo History to the "end" of your file. But this Undo History is only accessible until you close your file. After you close your file - it's still there, making your file bigger and slower - and much easier to get corrupted.

When you do Save As - with a new name - InDesign is doing "housekeeping" - removes all the overheads.

IDMLing is more "advanced" - it will strip all the overheads, fix potential corruptions - and also removes all previews - but there is no point doing it daily.

You didn't say where you have been saving your document to. Are you saving to your hard drive or to a cloud server or other remote device?
