Indesign Not Saving

When trying to save my indesign document it's not saving as INDD it's saving directly to PDF anyone experiencing this?

What makes you think that? InDesign has no ability to Save AS to PDF.

My guess is your system is set, incorrectly, to associate the .indd file type with Acrobat and it therefore showing the PDF icon, and that you are depending on icons, rather than showing file extensions, to determine file types.

Found the problem if I right click on the file and select properties and the Opens with was set at Adobe PDF not Indesign

Because when I save my indesign file it saves as a PDF see screenshot and when I double click to open the so called INDD file this error message comes up

As guessed by @Peter Spier always look at the file extension to determine the file type instead of the file icon. File icons can be misleading
