InDesign Publish Online - Nothing happens

After updating to 21.0 I seem to not be able to upload a large catalog file that previously I was able to.

I have done all of the following:

  • Completely logged out of Creative Cloud
  • Logged off of InDesign
  • Rebooted my computer (3 times)
  • Tried uploading much smaller documents (they uploaded)

The file I'm trying to upload is 69.6 MB and approximately 157 pages long.

When I try to upload a file, I use the process for uploading, choose all of my preferences and when I hit "Publish", nothing happens. No upload window. Nothing.

Computer:

  • Mac Studio (running parallels)
  • OS Sequoia 15.6.1
  • Windows (parallels) 11

Hi @Fire2325 and @jctremblay,

Thank you both for the detailed investigation and for sharing your findings. I really appreciate the time you took to narrow this down. I'm checking this behavior with the product team, and I'll update here as soon as I have more information.

Thanks again for your patience and collaboration on this.

Abhishek

Same thing is happening in Indesign 21.0 for me for a few days. 14in Macbook Pro with an m4 chip, running Sequoia 15.1.

Hello @gonink,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Could you share links to a sample file and attachments you're having trouble with after uploading them to a file-sharing service along with a small screen recording of your workflow and the problem, so we can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Anyone have any ideas? This is time sensitive for our marketing department.

Hi @Fire2325 I took a look at your document and I have the same results as you.

After a few troubleshooting, I found out that the variable "Modification Date" is causing the issue. Nothing wrong with the variables or your document. It's working fine in 2025. So this is a bug in 2026. I will let the InDesign teams at Adobe figuring why and ask them to fix it.

By deleting the variables and replacing them with text, it successfully published.
