Indesign Publish Online Tool - Error #16

I need some help.

I have designed an interactive portfolio that I have already exported several times with the ''publish online'' tool (where I first published the file to create a link and then published it in this existing document/link the times after).

Everything went fine until I tried to export it again yesterday and got an error #16.

''There was an error uploading your document. Please try again. Error #16''

I've searched the internet for solutions and tried a few things, such as permissions in the SLStore and Adobe PCD files and opening Indesign as Administrator. Nothing worked!

This is crazy since I was able to upload it within the same document/link the days before. Even when I upload it as a new document I get that error code!

I am working on a Lenovo Ideapad and using the 2020 version of Indesign.

Does anybody know what the problem might be, or better: have a solution?

I just went through this and here's what happened: TD:DR it was a corrupt asset. Once I pinpointed it and rebuilt the page it worked.

Long Story:

My 40 page doc with embedded GIFS and images was working, then suddenly it stopped being able to be uploaded.

I restarted my computer and indesign, packaged up the doc and unpacked to start again, unchecked PDF download...nothing worked.

Then I saw a post of someone who halved the size of the doc, uploaded the first half, then added in the pages and refresh that link. Thinking it was a size issue (becasue thats what Adobe has Error 16 listed as) I cut the doc in half - the first half uploaded fine, second half didnt. Playing around I pinpointed it was a page in the mid section that was causing the error. I uploaded the mid pages one by one to pin point the exact page which had 2 GIFs on. I rebuilt the page and recompressed the GIFS and it finally worked again.

I downsized 2 images that were around 8mb and than it worked. I suggest to package the file, than look in the links folder for any image that is unreasonably too large. I also went under publishing settings and put to 96 dpi.. it didn't really affect the published document since the web used 72dpi any way. Hope this helps.

I just went through this, and eventually figured out that it was because I had hidden pages in my document, which were causing the problem. Deleting them solved it.

so - i ran into the error #16 message when trying to publish an online project. Here's what i did to make it publishable and to get around that error- thanks to ideas from these notes. I changed the PDF download option to high quality print option, rather from the special preset PDF option that my printer requires. Dropping down the quality/size of the PDF option made the project publishable online. THANKS, all!!

I think this is great observations and "search and destroy" for the problem!

Wouldn´t it be possible for Adobe to to pinpoint "malicous" files in our documents taht would halt our work like this, not being able to publish our online documents with "Downloable" option?

Hi, I had over 100 pages which all included videos etc. Tried compressing it down as much as possible in size and still couldnt upload. It was doing my head in.

I then deleted half the file and uploaded that as that had worked before. So that worked. I then put the deleted pages back in and instead of publishing a new document i choose to update the existing one. This worked and i have tested it twice now both with success. Hope this helps any1 else who was getting fustrated with this.

I´m experiencing this over and over with error 16.

Small file: 83 MB, no videos, just a magazine, 48 pages.

I always have to turn off the downloadable function to make it work. Why? I would like my audience to be able to do this.

I have resolution on default for publish online. Should this be tweaked to lower res? Any example on how low?
