Hello,

I want to create a QR code Business Card, and most of it works ok (except Norwegian characters Æ, Ø and Å, but that's another story). But for some weird reason ,A is added to the cell phone number. In the field for ordinary phone number it works ok.

Someone out there who knows why ,A shows up in cell phone number?

Hello @Hanne Sofie,

Thank you for reaching out, and I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're encountering with the QR code creation.

Could you please let me know which version of InDesign you are currently using and the details of your operating system? Also, if possible, could you share a screen recording that shows how you're creating the QR code and where the issue with the cell phone number appears? This will help me understand the problem better and provide more specific guidance.

In the meantime, a common cause for such issues could be formatting or encoding errors when generating the QR code. I recommend checking the input fields to ensure there are no hidden characters or formatting quirks, especially when dealing with international characters.

Looking forward to your reply!

Thanks,
Abhishek Rao

Thank you.

I'm running the latest InDesign version. Unfortunately (or maybe not?) I can't get the error back now. I tried to make the QR code four times earlier today with the same ,A result (I manually entered the phone number and checked that there were no other characters) – now it doesn't happen.

If it reappears I'll get back to you.

Best regards,

Hanne S. Røed

What type of vcard for QR code are you creating: Business Card or Plain Text with code?

InDesign's QR code creator, in 'business card' mode, uses vCard 2.1, which does not handle accented characters.

It's a very capable code creator, but it's best used in Plain Text mode, with your own data strings. You can create vCard 3.0 or 4.0 codes with it, using plain text, and those do allow accented characters and have other refinements.

This should be pretty much all you need, but feel free to ask questions!
