InDesign Review Panel Automatically Filters to 'Resolved' Comments When Editing Text

Contributor ,
May 15, 2024 May 15, 2024

I am often working on documents with multiple review sessions. The problem that occurs since the latest updates of InDesign is that as soon as I put the cursor in a piece of text which previously had a comment attached to it which is resolved, all resolved comments pop up in the comments panel and I cannot see the current comments: all comments are immediately filtered to 'resolved'. Of course I can switch off the filter for resolved comments again, but it switches back again to 'resolved comments' as soon as I start working on the text. This is driving me nuts, because it is not only annoying, it becomes very difficult to work on the unresolved comments and takes up a lot of time. As a work around I now have to open the online document with the current unresolved comments to track down what actually still needs to be resolved. Please help!

Update 2025-05-13
This is still unresolved, so to anyone upvoting my comments on this issue: thank you!
To you, and anyone new reading these posts looking for a solution: please vote for the 'feature request' I added on the InDesign UserVoice panel: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/49001534-in...

Hopefully, that helps getting this on the list for updates as AI features seem to have the only priority now for Adobe. 😕

Hi @Lance349663431ou5,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding the comment feature in Adobe InDesign's "Share for Review." We completely understand how important it is for these tools to work seamlessly in your design workflow, and your feedback is invaluable.

We encourage you to create a UserVoice post to detail your suggestions about the visibility of resolved comments and the highlighting of current comments. Your input will help us prioritize these concerns and work towards improvements. You can submit your ideas here.

Thank you for being a part of our community, and we appreciate your insights!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

@Abhishek Rao, the idea is submitted under Feature Requests with this title: "InDesign Review Panel should NOT switch the filter to 'Resolved' when editing text with older resolved comments"

It is currently under review, so I am not sure if the link will stay the same, but this is the link at this moment:

Thank you for this! Losing my place every time I touch a comment is infintely frustrating. It seems to have been designed without any real life testing. It doesn't give you a chance to decide if you've resolved comment or not! Put the power back into the hands of the document owner please.

Yes @allycurtis, it is very frustrating. Thank you for upvoting!
It reminded me to add a request to my initial post to vote for the feature request I posted on InDesign UserVoice. If you like, you can vote there too: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/49001534-in...

Note that this was flagged in 2020, it has been reported as something that was under review. 5 years later, it's still borderline unusable because of this https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/41974318--id-4260994-th...

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for continuing to share your feedback and examples. I checked in with the product team once again regarding the behavior where the Review panel automatically switches to showing resolved comments when you begin editing text that previously had a resolved comment on it.

The team confirmed that this is currently working as designed. The intention behind it is to help designers quickly review the previously resolved comment associated with the text or object they're interacting with, just in case any further refinement is needed. At this time, there is no option available to turn off this automatic filtering behavior.

I understand this behavior can be disruptive, especially when you are working with larger documents or ongoing review cycles. I have shared your feedback with the team to ensure they fully recognize how it affects real-world workflows, and we will continue to monitor it as we explore future improvements. In the meantime, please continue upvoting this request on UserVoice: 'InDesign Review Panel should NOT switch the filter to ‘Resolved’ when editing text with older resolv...' so the team can better evaluate and prioritize this enhancement.

Thank you again for your patience and for taking the time to detail your experiences.

Best,
Abhishek
