InDesign Shortcuts not working - Mac to Remote PC

Hi all! Long time user, first community post.

I really need help on this one!

So the issue is a little complicated to explain but I'll do my best to keep it simple.

At my job I work on a Mac, I use the Mac to access a PC through Microsoft Remote Desktop.

At the end of last year, I decided it would be a good idea to clean my Mac keyboard with a damp paper towel, turns out it broke the keyboard, shortcuts messed up, keys not working.

Bad - but not a big deal, I grabbed another from storage. Turns out the one from storage didn't work either, probably in the old box for the same reason - someone else broke this one too.

Anyway, I find another that works (half works) the strange thing is, multi-key shortcuts work, but single keys don't. (Ctrl+Shift+any key) works but "T" for type doesn't. Every single key shortcut doesn't work.

I then try a fully functional keyboard from my coworker and it's the exact same. On their computer, all shortcuts are fine but plugged into my computer, only multi key shortcuts work and single keys don't.

The issue is isolated to InDesign.

Photoshop and Illustrator are fine.

Additionally, when IT or coworkers access my remote PC from their computer (with Microsoft Remote) it works fine, but not from my computer. If I use an alternative remote software, it works but Microsoft remote doesn't.

All settings are the same between my coworkers computers and mine. (Mac, PC and remote software settings) I tried all standard fixes, nothing works.

I will try a PC keyboard next week and I'll probably ask IT to fresh install InDesign. (We've tried pretty much all other solutions)

Also, final point - using the alternative remote software is ok but not a good long term solution, it's slower and doesn't support some features I need.

All help appreciated, this one has really confused me.

Thanks Adobe Community! 🙂

Well it's something - try the usual fixes

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

So as a general update, I tried a PC keyboard and it didn't fix anything.

Also checked third party software and extensions again, but couldn't find anything out of the ordinary.

I wonder if this discussion can help:

Are you running Webroot or another utility that can hijack certain shortcuts?

Hey thanks for the response,

This is an interesting post, I found this one a couple of weeks ago and it does seem like the closest to my issue.

I have tried all the suggestions, considered the third party issue as well but couldn't find anything that stands out. Same extensions and software as coworkers, same settings as well.  Not running Webroot.

Probably down to the keyboard itself - you could try changing the Language settings - but who knows - if your IT department can't figure it out it's unlikely that we can - but who knows... maybe someone can take a crackshot and solve it for you.

I'd just try different keyboards until it works ok.

Again - hard to solve without sitting there and trying it.

All InDesign shortcuts are customisable

Maybe just customise your keyboard shortcuts for now to the ones you use the most.

Hey, thanks for the response.

Tried a PC keyboard today, issue remains.

Didn't fix.

Also, I have changed back to default InDesign Shortcut Set (previously running a custom set I made) and it made no difference. Tried making a new one too, also didn't work.
