InDesign Teacup Datalinker - SQL database

Has anyone tried using Teacup datalinker to link to a SQL database in Indesign? We are getting a error when connecting the database that says something similar to "Failed to retrieve rows. Check your encoding"

Seems to be specific to their plugin.
